Founded in October 2016, Mabel's Orphaned Angels Rescue (MOAR) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization & no-kill rescue based in Southern Maryland.

While a large number of our rescues are of the feline variety, we are committed to helping animals of all kinds find their perfect forever home. By the end of 2022 we will have found forever homes for more than 400 orphaned angels.

👻 Keep the “BOO!” out of your pet’s Halloween! 🐾🎃

Halloween is full of treats, costumes, decorations, and visitors, but some of that spooky fun can create real risks for our pets.

🍫 Hide the candy! Chocolate can be dangerous for dogs and cats, and candy containing xylitol can be especially dangerous for dogs.

🚪 Watch that door! With trick-or-treaters coming and going, consider giving your pet a quiet, comfortable room away from all the excitement.

🕯️ Be careful with decorations. Keep pets away from candles, lit pumpkins, electrical wires, and small decorations they could chew or swallow.

👻 Costumes should be comfortable. Never force a pet to dress up. Costumes shouldn't restrict movement, vision, or breathing, and they shouldn't have small pieces that can be chewed off. A festive bandana works just as well!

🏷️ Check those ID tags. Make sure your pet has current identification in case they slip out during the Halloween excitement.

Dominic may be a senior, but you’d never know it from his kitten-like energy and mischievous spirit. Whether it’s swiping snacks, investigating Crocs, or turning a sink into his personal throne, this boy knows how to keep life fun.

He’s diabetic, but don’t let that scare you—he takes his insulin and BG checks like a pro. Dominic would be happiest as your one-and-only cat (or with just a few others that are non-confrontational), and he’s great with calm dogs, gentle kids, and would love a catio or porch to explore.

Baby Mango is the kind of kitten who steals your heart in seconds. He is handsome, confident, and full of charm. There isn't a shy bone in his body. He loves people, loves attention, and loves being right in the middle of whatever you're doing.

He is a window-watching pro who will guard the house from every bird, squirrel, and leaf that dares to move. Playtime is his favorite sport and he brings all the energy and all the joy. Meet Ace. This stunning gentleman is named after one of the most handsome stallions on Chincoteague Island. And while he is just as striking, he is definitely a bit mellower than his namesake. Ace is a calm, charming little guy with a heart full of sweetness.

He is the king of toys and cuddles. If it squeaks, rolls, or crinkles, Ace is on it. And when he is done showing off his playful side, he becomes a total lovebug. He also adores shoulder rides and will happily perch like a tiny, elegant parrot while you go about your day.

Ace is gentle, affectionate, and full of personality. If you’re looking for a kitten who brings both fun and snuggles, this handsome boy is ready to steal your heart. He must be adopted with one of his foster siblings or into a home with another young feline friend to play with.

✨ Rex Update ✨

Boy do I have some amazing news!! (which is much needed right now)

Rex had his echocardiogram last week and we couldn’t have gotten better news.
His echocardiogram showed…. HE DOESN’T HAVE HCM (heart disease)!! He can discontinue his heart medication and continue to monitor his heart.

I discussed with his vet and we agreed that keeping him on his medication would be a safer course of action as our concern is the medication is what has his heart looking so good after two years of echocardiograms showing heart disease. Recheck echocardiogram will be in one year.

His diagnosis states, “No significant abnormalities noted suggesting this cat had transient myocardial thickening rather than true HCM despite the breed.”

We couldn’t have gotten better news. 🥹

We shall see how his heart looks in one year and decide if he can discontinue his medication then or continue. Our hope is that his heart truly did heal and that his further echos continue to say “No HCM”. 🤞
