Comment and say Hi to Koda! (Or Triston)

Koda is working on a guided tether line to eventually help him find a calm space on his own. A tether can teach so many positives and be a guide in creating calmer behaviors. Utilizing a raised cot in this scenario is also very useful so there is a clear communication where we want him to settle. 🐶

🐾Relaxing or Training?🐶

This can absolutely look like not much is happening here. But for a happy go lucky dog like Marty who is new to our Board & Train program, teaching them how to be bored and be confident is a huge part of the relationship building phase for us.

There are roughly 73 FEMA certified human remains detection canines in the entire country. Most are Labradors. Some are German shepherds. A few are Malinois. Exactly one is a pit bull.

His name is Aldo, and he arrived at the Redlands Animal Shelter in California as a stray with no history and no takers. What volunteers noticed was how relentlessly focused he was, which is the same quality that gets a dog labeled too much for an ordinary living room. Somebody looked at that and saw a working prospect instead of a problem, and he went into training.

He met every certification standard and became the only blocky headed dog to hold that credential. The work is grim and it matters enormously. After a building collapse or a mass casualty disaster, these dogs are how families get their people back.

The exact trait that made him hard to place is the trait that qualified him.







It says something that the same intensity which wrecks a quiet household can also certify a dog for disaster work. What is your dog completely obsessive about?
