Farrah is looking for a new home. Due to circumstances.
Please share.
Farrah is currently being held by a friend of mine until I can arrange transport for her to return home (roughly end of April–May). If a suitable home is found before then, placement may be considered.
DOB: 12-11-2024
Farrah is intact and pet quality. She is approximately 35% wolf content (estimated; she has not been Embarked like her siblings) with high GSD influence. She will be up to date on vaccines before leaving for her new home.
Farrah will need a home that can accommodate some of her specific needs and continue the work that has already been started with her.
Temperament
Farrah is very bond-based and typically takes time to warm up to new people. Right now she is very skittish and nervous, especially around women, and can go into a full flight panic response in new or overwhelming situations. She does best with someone willing to slow down and allow her to work through new things at her own pace rather than rushing her.
Once she forms a relationship and begins to trust someone, her personality really starts to shine. She is extremely sweet and affectionate, and has already started showing a goofy, playful side with people and dogs she feels comfortable with.
Farrah currently seems to prefer calm male handlers, though the most important thing will be someone patient who wants to build a relationship with her based on trust, respect, and consistency.
Dogs & Other Animals
Farrah would likely do well in a home with another dog. She has shown no signs of same-sex aggression and tends to be on the more submissive and playful side.
She has shown interest in cats, but appears capable of leaving them alone when corrected. She has also been exposed to rats.
Housing & Management
Farrah will need access to a secure outdoor enclosure where she can sleep at night.
Currently she is living outside on a tether because stress can cause her to immediately potty when brought indoors, and she is not yet able to fully relax inside the home. This is something that will need continued work and patience as her confidence improves.
Kennel Requirements
Farrah will need reintroduction to kennel training. In her previous home the kennel became a stressful place for her, so rebuilding a positive association with short, rewarding training sessions will be important.
The only kennel she has previously done well in is a heavy-duty kennel (such as a Rock Creek anxiety kennel). She has attempted to break out of standard kennels and can injure herself trying to escape, so a reinforced kennel is required for her safety.
She has also developed the habit of screaming in the kennel and can be destructive if she is able to reach objects from inside it. Because of this, the kennel area must be kept clear of anything she could grab or chew.
She can also become destructive if left loose in a vehicle, so a secure car kennel will be required for transport.
Training
She is currently continuing training and confidence work while she is being held. Even in a short amount of time she has already shown:
• A desire for affection and physical contact
• The beginnings of a reliable recall
• The ability to start working through her panic responses
With the right person and continued structure, she has a lot of potential.
Ideally she would be placed with a trainer or someone experienced with northern breeds, primitive dogs, or wolfdogs who understands the patience and management these dogs require.
Location
Farrah is currently in Colorado and is being held by a friend until I can arrange transport or find a suitable placement.
Contracts will be required for placement.
