A VERY SPECIAL FOSTER BEING SOUGHT.
This is Callie, a stray found about 6 weeks ago who came to our facility extremely frightened and shut down. Callie started off in the office, typically hiding in a back room, occasionally venturing out to play with another dog. She made minimal progress in interacting with people…but we could see her gentleness and believe she can become a trusting dog. At this time Callie shares space with an adolescent pup, just one to keep the environment calm and stable. She has been spayed. She does not yet accept a leash. She cowers from touch.
We are hoping there is a calm home that may consider fostering Callie. She would need and want her own crate and we can provide that. She would need a slow, let her go at her pace introduction to home life. But we have seen it happen before: given time, space, care and love, a shut down dog responds…in amazing, unbelievable ways.
The two side by side photos represent what is and what could be for Callie. There is a video in comments for “what is” currently.
If you can help, please call 870 994-4445 for information on fostering Callie.

Our biggest thanks to the vendors and volunteers who supported the Photos with Santa on Saturday ar the Hardy gym. From pet treats to human treats, dog coats, crocheted items, nail trims, face painting, raffle, pup cups, there was something for everyone besides the main event: photos with Santa. And huge thank you’s to our visitors for the many monetary donations that where given to the 501c3 Supporters of Cherokee Village Animal Control. Money will be used for facility improvement and animal care.
Photos will be posted in the coming days. Our photographer, Tom Hellefert captured some great photos. Thank you Tom. And thank you Santa, we appreciate you so much.

This little guy was fondly named many names: Buddy, Spanky, Sparky, Scrappy….because he was all those things. But now he will have his own permanent name as he is adopted. THANK YOU ADOPTERS and enjoy all his antics, he had us smiling!

One of our Husky pups, Basil (now Wolf), had a bit of a distance to travel to join this family. So he was the first to go to his forever home. You have to check out the video in the comments to see how this little guy is settling right into his new home. It is a fun, short video. THANK YOU ADOPTERS! Wolf is a lucky boy!

In the middle of the business of running the shelter we had the biggest surprise visitor! The REAL Santa came to visit. He will be at the Pet Photo Fundraiser event tomorrow but he heard there were puppies that can’t go because they are being kept safely out of the public for one more week, so he came to them! The first two are our last two little girls, waiting and wishing for a forever home. One more was pre adopted today. There is a video in the comments also.

TOMORROW! This is a great opportunity for a photo with your dogs and family and Santa. Hope to see you there!

UPDATE: there are now 2 females available for adoption.
UPDATE: one more has been pre-adopted. There are three females left.
And then there were four. While the husky pup siblings remain at CVAC for another 1.5 weeks, waiting on that next important puppy shot, these four little girls are still available! The lucky staff and volunteers who care ( and play!) with them are always thrilled to know one has been pre-adopted. But also with mixed feelings of “will my favorite being going to a forever home soon?”…not sure whether to hope for that or to want a little bit more time with this wiggly, face kissing, cuddly bunch. But truthfully, we want them to go to homes as soon as they can. Call CVAC at 870-994-4445 to set up a meet and greet like other families have. We even had a caller from Kansas City who told us they are stunning. All pups will need to return for both the final puppy shot and for spaying per adoption contract.
