📚🐾 Always Learning, Always Growing 🐾📚

This past weekend, Dr. Traci Baker, Dr. Jessica Titchenal, and our veterinary technician Kieona Pierson attended the Pacific Northwest Veterinary Conference.

Veterinary medicine is always evolving, and our team is dedicated to bringing the latest knowledge and techniques back to our clinic. Conferences like this give us the chance to:
✨ Learn from leading experts
✨ Stay up-to-date on new treatments and technology
✨ Connect with other veterinary professionals
✨ Bring fresh ideas home to better serve our patients and their families

We’re proud of our team’s commitment to lifelong learning—and excited to put their new knowledge into practice for the pets we love to care for! 🐶🐱💙

🚨 We’ve seen a lot of ear infections in the clinic this week! 🚨

Ear infections in dogs are most often linked to dietary allergies, but they’re also common this time of year from cheat grass 🌾 and from all the fun our pups have splashing in our beautiful lakes🌊

👉 Signs to watch for:
- Head shaking
- Stinky ears
- Redness or irritation
- Discharge (if left untreated)

🐾 If your dog is prone to ear infections or struggles with itchy skin, we can help! Options like Cytopoint injections can stop the itch before it leads to bigger problems. Or, our vets can chat with you about diet and supplements to support long-term ear and skin health.

📞 Call us at 509-235-6860 to schedule an appointment and keep your pup happy, healthy, and ear-infection free! ❤️🐶

Sweet Biker just turned 13! 🥳 As Vet Assistant Lilli’s loyal sidekick, he wants to share an important reminder:

Oral health for older pets is so much more than just keeping their breath fresh. It’s tied to their overall well-being — including their heart, digestion, and immune health.

🦷 Why it matters:
* Over 80% of dogs over 3 have active dental disease — many without obvious symptoms.
* The most common issue is periodontal disease, which begins as gingivitis 👉 if untreated, it can damage bone, loosen teeth, and even allow bacteria to enter the bloodstream.
* Bacteria from severe oral disease can contribute to problems in major organs like the heart, liver, and kidneys.

✨ What you can do to support aging pets:
* Brush their teeth daily (or as often as possible) with a pet-safe toothpaste.
* Use dental chews (like Ora Vet) to reduce plaque and tartar.
* Schedule routine professional cleanings starting at age 3 but especially as your pet ages.

Because Biker is in his “teen years,” he’s a bit more prone to dental issues — and he knows from Lilli that prevention is always better than treatment. Let’s help our seniors stay comfortable, healthy, and smiling 🐶❤️

🐾 Community Cat Care in Action! 🐾

This week, our amazing team members Lilli and Kieona partnered with Cheney Ferals to help trap, transport, and care for seven feral cats in our community!

Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) is an important part of keeping community cat populations healthy and reducing future litters. These kitties will get the medical care they need before being safely returned to their outdoor homes.

💚 Want to support? You can donate directly to Cheney Ferals Go Fund Me or call in and donate through our clinic—every dollar will go toward spay/neuter, vaccinations, deworming, and other essential medical care for community cats.

We’re so proud of our team for lending a hand (and a lot of heart) to make a difference for animals in need. Big thanks to Cheney Ferals for the incredible work they do every day for our community cats!

Black fly bites are going to start becoming prominent in our area as the weather warms up!! C here are some quick facts and care tips you should know if your pet becomes affected by one of these bites:

-Bites appear as bright red spots; may look like ringworm at first glance

-Will turn into a bullseye shape

--Spring and early summer are their peak times

-Can typically heal without treatment, but seek veterinary care if you notice the bite not subsiding within a few days

-Bites can feel sore and/or itchy

-Prevent your pet from licking/scratching

-Keep the area clean by applying a pet-safe soap and antibacterial cream

-Can be found anywhere on the body, but mostly occur on stomach or inner thighs

-Use pet-safe bug repellants if you so choose to use that route of prevention

Stay safe and alert out there everyone!
