🎃👻 HALLOWEEN PET SAFETY TIPS! 🐾

Halloween is full of treats, tricks, costumes, and spooky fun, but we want to make sure our four-legged family members stay safe, too!

Here are a few reminders to keep your pets happy and safe this Halloween:

🍫 Keep the candy out of reach! Chocolate, sugar-free candy (especially those containing xylitol), and other Halloween treats can be dangerous for pets.

🎃 Watch those decorations! Keep electrical cords, glow sticks, fake cobwebs, and small decorations away from curious paws and mouths.

🚪 Be careful with the front door! With trick-or-treaters coming and going, pets can easily slip outside. Keep them in a secure room away from the excitement.

🐕 Costume comfort matters! If your pet is dressing up, make sure their costume fits properly, doesn't restrict movement or breathing, and has no small pieces they can chew off.

🦴 Skip the people treats! Stick to pet-safe treats and keep those Halloween goodies for the humans.

🪪 Make sure ID tags are current! Just in case your pet makes an unexpected escape, updated identification and microchip information can make all the difference.

🐈 Give them a quiet place! Not every pet enjoys the spooky visitors, strange noises, and extra activity. A cozy, quiet space can help them feel safe.

NEW AT STATE AVE VETERINARY HOSPITAL: TRAP-NEUTER-RETURN PROGRAM!

Starting November 1st 2026, State Ave Veterinary Hospital will be offering a Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program to help make a difference for the stray, feral, and community cats in our area!

Community cats deserve a chance at healthier lives, too. By spaying and neutering free-roaming cats, we can help reduce unwanted litters, improve community cat welfare, and make a positive impact on our local community.

How does TNR work?
🐾 Trap: Humanely trap or safely contain an unowned, free-roaming cat.
🐾 Neuter: Eligible cats receive discounted spay or neuter services, a rabies vaccination, a permanent ear tip, and a sterilization tattoo.
🐾 Return: Once recovered and medically ready, the cat is returned to the location where they were originally found.

A few important things to know:
• This program is specifically for unowned stray, feral, and community cats intended to return to their outdoor environment.
• Cats must arrive in a secure humane trap or a carrier approved by our hospital.
• Ear tipping, sterilization tattooing, and rabies vaccination are required parts of the program.
• Additional medical care, diagnostics, or treatment may involve additional charges.
• Participation depends on eligibility, staffing, safety, and hospital availability.

We know community cats are a part of our neighborhoods, and we're excited to offer another way to help care for them while addressing the growing population of free-roaming cats.
