🔎Microchip Update: What You Need to Know🐾

We've been hearing some confusion about microchips lately—so here’s a quick update for our Newaukum Valley Veterinary family:

✔️ We proudly use PetLink microchips and have for many years. PetLink is still fully in business and remains a trusted and reliable partner in pet recovery. 🙌

❌ A different microchip company called "Save This Life" recently went out of business. This has nothing to do with PetLink—and Save This Life is NOT a company we’ve ever used here at Newaukum.

🐕‍🦺 If your pet was microchipped through Save This Life, there is no need to re-chip (ouch, that needle is no joke!). You can still re-register the existing microchip number with another national registry like:

PetLink

AAHA Universal Pet Microchip Lookup Tool

24PetWatch

HomeAgain

Here's how to do it:

✅ How to Re-Register Your Pet’s Existing Microchip:

1. Find your pet’s microchip number

You might have this on your original paperwork, or your vet can scan your pet to retrieve it.

2. Choose a reputable pet microchip registry (Examples listed above.)

3. Go to the site and register the microchip number

Enter your contact info, your pet’s details, and the chip number.

Some registries charge a one-time or annual fee; others are free.

4. Keep your contact info up to date
If you move or change your phone number, always update the registry.

📡 Regardless of chip brand, we recommend having your pet’s chip scanned during regular vet visits to ensure it’s still reading properly.

We're always happy to help you check chip numbers, answer questions, and make sure your pet stays safe and identifiable.

🖤 Thank you for trusting us to care for your pets!

🎆 Don’t Wait — Until It’s Too Late! 🐾

Fireworks may be fun for some of us, but for our pets, they can be terrifying. Loud booms and flashing lights can trigger severe anxiety in dogs and cats.

💥 Plan ahead! Now is the time to talk to your veterinarian about:

Calming medications

Anxiety wraps

Behavior tips

Safe spaces at home

📞 Call your vet today to make sure your pet has what they need to stay calm, safe, and stress-free this firework season.

🐶🐱 Let’s make sure the only thing that goes boom is the sky — not your pet’s nerves.
