Hi everyone! I’d like to formally introduce you to Lieutenant Dan!
Dan was part of a litter that suffered from suspected neonatal isoerythrolysis. This is where the mother’s blood type doesn’t match that of the babies and causes the mother’s antibodies to attack the baby’s red blood cells. This can be fatal but in Lieutenant Dan’s case, it caused him to lose his tail, one of his hind feet, most of his toes on a front foot and the tip of an ear.
Despite all of this, Dan has thrived and has been a very “normal” kitten until recently when he started having a fever, rounded belly, lethargy, and muscle loss. We were able to confirm fluid in his abdomen and suspect that he now has FIP. We have started treatment for him and only six doses in, we are seeing incredible changes! He is back to playing and demanding food! It is truly heartbreaking to see these kiddos suffer and we are so thankful he is starting to feel better.
