Last hunt of the year@

I thought I was ready to make this post without sobbing but I was so wrong. Last month Dixielands Perfect Thunder, my Dixie, finally said she was ready to go. 16.5 years was a long time. She gave us so much. Taught me how to be the best companion to her. She found birds all over the country. She whelped 6 of the best bird dogs I have ever had the pleasure of walking behind, 4 are still with us, they are now 12. Kansas will be different this year. I've never been there without her. Last year at 15.5 I whiffed the last pheasant she ever pointed. She just smiled and said it's ok. I have slept with her between Amy and I for 16 years. If I went to bed before she was ready she would tap my shoulder with her paw until I picked up the top cover for her to crawl under and curl up. I love her still, now and always. I thank God for gifting me the perfect dog.

I will forever miss my Best Girl.
