Blue Horse Mukwa Equine Retirement and Rescue Center

Blue Horse Mukwa Equine Retirement and Rescue Center We are a committed sanctuary/rescue center for horses. We have been saving horses and dogs since 1999 and currently are the permanent home of 35 horses.

We also pull dogs from high kill shelters, have them vetted and look for approved forever homes. Blue Horse Mukwa Equine Retirement & Rescue Center is a certified 501(c)3 nonprofit organization founded in Virginia Beach, Virginia in 1999. Blue Horse is currently located on Rt. 49 in Chase City, Virginia. We are 100% volunteer run and operate solely on donations. We DO NOT sell or adopt out horses,

but are dedicated to providing a permanent home/sanctuary to horses that have been abused, abandoned, neglected, PMU foals and PMU mares, and retirees. We also provide safe havens for donkeys at our facility. Blue Horse is home to a number of former thoroughbred race horses that were either injured on the track or just were not bringing in the winnings. They are now happily living among our equine family members. Blue Horse was conceived when Gitchie came to live with us in Virginia Beach. He had been a Caisson at Arlington National Cemetery and was in need of a buddy. The rest is history. We saw a great need in the equine world to take in horses that otherwise may have met a horrible end. Our outreach programs include working with local children and teens focusing on leadership and compassion through interaction with abused and abandoned animals. Our slogan ..."healing horses, heals humans, where every life matters" is demonstrated each day in the loving care and devotion that is offered with every flake of hay, every scoop of grain, and every drink of water. For many of our residents, Blue Horse is a tiny slice of heaven right here on earth.

Scammers contacted John and said they had his dog. They wanted payment first and then they would give him the address where his dog was. This man is a disabled Marine. He loves his dog and desperately wants him home. He believed these scammers and paid for his hope.
It is being reported and hopefully they will be caught.
What is so sad is how badly this hurt him. He was so excited when he called saying his dog had been found. I had a bad feeling.
I hope those people are proud of themselves. I hope that karma pays them a huge visit. I pray Davey is found and returned to his home.
Please please keep sharing.

While everyone else is spending their week anxiously waiting for the holidays, this little family is stuck in our pen. This mother and son duo are a truly heartbreaking sight. Anderson and Gloria cling to each other. They are extremely bonded. To make matters worse, Anderson is blind in one eye and not sound. Thankfully Gloria rides. I’m nervous for them.

The thought of separating them is devastating. If they aren’t bailed there’s nothing I can do to keep them together. Their deadline is THIS Wednesday at 10 PM.
