Enzo and the Pheasant ladies have done such a wonderful job raising their little family.

3 healthy babes are feathered out and perching at night now.

The ladies are wonderful mothers and Enzo is an incredibly attentive and protective father.

Ive done a lot of reading about pheasants, and talked to many breeders and pheasant care professionals, and I'm given to understand that successfully raising pheasants in captivity is very difficult and rarely successful.
Our 3 babes are special little floofs. I take no credit for any of it though. All I have done is provide them with a safe home and food and water. This little family has done all of the heavy lifting.

2 moms, a dad and 3 babes: not all families look the same, but all families are beautiful.

Its that time of year again.... Nakey Sheep!!!!!

I've made this post 3 times, and 3 times Instagram has eaten it. So I'm trying again to update you all on the new Hogwaller pigs.

Dr. Linc came out to see them this week. They got an exam and vaccines and a plan to take care of their lice infection.

Patricia and Turtle got an antibiotic injection for their skin infection, then they all got moved into a big pen of their own!

You guys, these are just such lovely pigs! I dont know how they ended up where and how they were found, but at some point somebody put time into these guys. They are socialized and we'll mannered and respectful. As starving as they were I would absolutely forgive them for being food driven and pushy, but whike food is definitely their priority they are so polite when I bring them food. They dont shove me at all and I have never felt overwhelmed or scared by them. And they are A LOT of pig now that they are gaining weight, so it would be easy for them to overwhelmed me, but they don't. They are just such good kids.

They are gaining weight quickly and are already much healthier and happier. Their skin looks better, their coats are growing back and they are starting to look like themselves again.

Im so happy they were found when they were and we were able to help them

Had a little drama on the farm yesterday.

Our farrier Blair, and our volunteer, Altas, we're working on trims when out of nowhere Sweet Girl had, what the vet is diagnosing as a seizure, or some kind of transient ischemic episode.

It was enough to scare the heck out of Blair and Altlas, and turn me and the kids around and back home in a hurry.

Dr Shane was kind enough, and fortunate enough, to be really close by and headed straight to us.

By the time he got here she had passed the post-seizure phase (postictal phase) and was back to normal. There was no evidence of it being anything other than a random event so there isnt really anything we can do except keep an eye on her.

Sweet Girl is a very old (25+) thoroughbred who is otherwise healthy and happy, albeit with some not unusual arthritic changes.

So, we monitor and cross our fingers that this was a random event and not the beginning of a pattern.

Today she is happily grazing and eating and laying in the sun, acting like she didnt give us all minor cardiac events yesterday.

Horses, man.

Oliver says 'Hi! And thanks for the rain!'

We've been in the middle of a 20 year record drought. But for the last 3 days, and hopefully a few more, its been wonderfully rainy.

Well, they did it. Our duck/goose/goose mama team hatched and egg.....and promptly abandoned it 🙄

We found this little fellow sans shell, but still wet and cold. All 3 mamas (and I use that term begrudgingly) had picked up their remaining eggs, moved them into a new nest 3 feet away and were sitting there staring at him like he had 2 heads.

We brought him in, put him on some heat to dry and warm up, and crossed our fingers. The next morning he was dry and fluffy and had many, many opinions to share.

So, meet Ryan Gosling!

He's going to be rotten, but we love it, and him.
