On today’s National Dog Day, we’d like to introduce you to REACH Community Care Manager Kelly and her Bernese mountain/poodle mix Bourbon. Kelly and four-year-old Bourbon are animal ambassadors for their local humane society, volunteering regularly to spread joy to their community.
“He is remarkably special,” Kelly said. “I have never had a dog that I can take anywhere, anytime, under any circumstances. He fears nothing and absolutely adores me.”

Bourbon is certified as a Canine Good Citizen and visited memory care units during COVID. Bourbon serves as the humane society’s friendly face at local events as Kelly shares awareness about spaying and neutering, vaccinations and humane treatment of animals. Kelly and Bourbon now visit schools and summer camps teaching kids about animal care, responsible pet ownership and kindness toward animals. As Bourbon showcases his 15 tricks, the pair even teaches trick training!

Happy National Dog Day to all the dog lovers out there! Thanks for sharing your passion for animals through volunteering within your community, Kelly! We’re proud of you and Bourbon working together to spread joy!
