Have you ever brought your dog with you on an errand and left him in the car "just for a minute" and taken longer than expected? You might want to think about that the next time because there are things that should be considered in this case. According to NC Laws, you can be charged with a Misdemeanor or Felony depending on this specifics if someone reports you. Purchasing a small thermometer to keep in the car is a good way to judge the heat, even if the windows are down. If you happen to see a dog in a car, and the owner is nowhere to be found, approach store management to broadcast a message to everyone over the speaker to see if the Owner is close or call Local Animal Control. According to the Human Society website...

When it's 72 degrees Fahrenheit outside, the temperature inside your car can heat up to 116 degrees Fahrenheit within an hour.
When it's 80 degrees Fahrenheit outside, the temperature inside your car can heat up to 99 degrees Fahrenheit within 10 minutes.
