Forgotten, Now Family…the first time I heard the rescues name I remember thinking it was kind of a mouthful.

But there’s no better way to explain who they are and what they do, and here’s proof.

We tried to save Coach. I’m not the only one that worked hard to undo the violence that had been programmed into him.

Ultimately a hard decision had to be made, and I don’t have words for how grateful I am that I was allowed to come be with him and hold his paw, to show him some love and compassion.

This arrived yesterday. A physical mark to match the impression Coach left on me, a reminder of why we do the work we do.

He’ll be remembered. That’s the mission…and it’s right there in the name.

Just realized I gotta take Ms Pixie’s graduation photos again…thanks Lacey 🤣

Sometimes what we want and what we get are two different things. But it’s funny how things sometimes go the way they were meant to, just the same.

The original goal was for Grace to be a therapy dog for an amazing fire dept, but that just wasn’t what she was built for. (We have a dog in training to meet that need, so no worries)

There was never a moment when we thought of sending her off to another foster or to boarding. She may not be the right dog for that job, but she was still one of ours, a dog who was part of the program.

We don’t leave our own behind. We don’t quit.

So big thanks to for the incredible work he did with Grace, to for letting her come to us, and to our new friend Taylor for coming out and meeting her today.

Watching Taylor and Grace fall in love made it very clear that this is the outcome that was meant to be. I’m so grateful for how the stars aligned to give this beautiful dog the home she deserves.

Good girl, Grace.

Being a self employed dog trainer is an absolute gift. It’s not to say it’s ALWAYS fun, and it’s not always easy. Heck sometimes it’s even dangerous.

But if you’re real lucky you get to be a part of some amazing work…work that helps you be better than you were before.

We’re endlessly grateful to be in a position to do the work we do with our friends at and

Grace is still waiting for the right family. Though her training and obedience where right where they need to be, we decided her personality wasn’t suited for the public facing aspects of therapy work.

Grace is an absolute sweetheart, great with kids, pets and adults once she has a few minutes to meet them.

She is available from and will come with training support from us to whoever adopts her.

Buddy the therapy dog in training stopped by to do some training and say HBD to this smiling face and all his classmates!

Buddy is from and has been training with us for a bit.

He continues to be proof that rescue dogs have tremendous value, and can do amazing things!

We’ll have more to share about him soon!

Couple of former shelter dogs we foster trained just back for some boarding!

Rick(left) is the ultimate buddy dog. I’m so happy with the human he ended up with (the fact that he’s a Charlotte Firefighter is barely related to why 🤣)

Freya was then first dog I foster trained when we started K9 Responder Academy. Y’all helped us pick her name!

She’s got an amazing family now, one that’s been loving and patient, and helped her continue to be more calm and confident in the world.

In just the last couple years we have worked with over 100 shelter and rescue dogs. We have a 100% adoption rate for the dogs we have foster trained.

Why do we do all this pro bono work? Because we can.

Because we have the skills and experience to help make a difference. Because any trainer worth their salt should be helping in some way that isn’t strictly profit driven.

And because if you have the means to help someone, you have a moral obligation to do so!

Freya and Rick are just two of the amazing pups that came from

Ready for the rain to go away so we can get these puppies back in the pool! 🤣

Monty and Layla both had their first pool experiences this past weekend. While not a standard part of our training here, when conditions allow we very much enjoy teaching dogs how to safely enjoy the water, including going in when invited, swimming with confidence, and how to get out.

Even with all that in mind, our pups are never outside unsupervised.

A good foster is worth their weight in gold. Even with boat loads of money (which shelters and rescues don’t have) they can only do so much without fosters.

here has been fostering Tex for a while. He’s available from ID # A1238258

I want to take a minute to recognize Kat for being the gold standard of a pet foster.

She committed her Sunday to bringing Tex out to a public event so he could meet people, and have a chance at adoption. That’s where we met and told her about the free monthly class we put on with our partners at

So today she commits another Sunday by bringing Tex to our training class, helping to increase his skills, and her own!

And for what it’s worth, Tex is a great dog. He’s probably best suited for someone with an active lifestyle and would make a great adventure buddy.

If you know someone that might be a good fit for Tex, send ‘em this way! Let’s get this sweet dude his forever home!
