November Pet of the Month: Meet Jake! 🐾

Jake is an almost 6-year-old Boxer/American Pit Bull Terrier mix who came to Southeast Animal Behavior & Training in August 2024 for help with several behavior challenges, including aggression toward his housemate Dempsey, generalized anxiety, fear of some unfamiliar people and dogs, and stress in the car.

During his first appointment, Jake was visibly anxious, he trembled, stayed close to his owners, and couldn’t relax enough to enjoy treats. With the guidance of Dr. Kristina Baucom, Jake’s family worked hard on behavior modification exercises and finding the right medication to help ease his anxiety.

Fast forward to his most recent recheck, and Jake’s transformation has been incredible! He now rides calmly in the car, enjoys his treats during visits, gets along with Dempsey, and is overall a much happier, more relaxed pup.

We’re so proud of Jake and his dedicated family for all the progress they’ve made. Way to go, Jake, you’re such a good boy! 💙

🎃 Halloween Tips from Southeast Animal Behavior & Training 👻

Not every pup loves to dress up for the big day, and that’s okay! While some dogs enjoy the spotlight, others may find costumes uncomfortable or stressful. If your dog seems uneasy, try a festive bandana or bowtie instead.

Trick-or-Treat night can also be overwhelming with the constant doorbell rings and excitement. You can help your dog stay calm by:
🐶 Setting up a quiet, secure space away from the front door
🎵 Playing white noise or calming music (classical or reggae works great!)
🍬 Using calming chews like ThunderWunders or Composure Pro
💊 Talking with us about medication options if your pet is especially anxious

A little preparation can make Halloween safer and less stressful for everyone, especially your four-legged friend. If you need help managing your dog’s anxiety or reactivity, the team at Southeast Animal Behavior & Training is here to help you find the right plan for your pet.

🎉 October Pet of the Month: Henry! 🎉

Meet Henry, a 2-year-old Domestic Shorthair who had a bit of a rocky start adjusting to his new home and feline siblings. He was keeping his parents up at night and sometimes skipping the litter box, but with time, patience, and guidance from Dr. O’Brian, Henry has made amazing progress!

He’s now getting along much better with his cat family, letting his parents get some well-deserved sleep, and his litter box habits have greatly improved after addressing a few GI concerns.

We’re so proud of you, Henry, you’re proof that patience, teamwork, and a little expert help make all the difference! 🐾
