After a LONG week with lots of horses, hot temps, and long days….ended it today working at BEST @ PG Equestrian Center. It was HOT but I was lucky to have a mostly shaded spot and my ice box fan blowing away on me! Really enjoyed watching the kids (along with adults) warm up before competing. Sooo many cute littles with their ponies! A horse safely tied to her trailer side blew up after a huge rig rolled by their trailer and she broke away…got her back with the help of another patron and waited to locate owner. She was such a sweet mare! I was happy to keep her company…sitting at the show from 7am - 1pm waiting for fixer uppers got a little lonely lol! Happy to also get a visit towards the end from a wonderful former client buddy!

Horse doesn’t have much wall to safely nail into to keep in steel shoes, so glue-ons was needed to move forward so the horse can continue to work. This horse does a lot with its owner and is out 24/7 in the pasture. Trail horse facing at times tough terrain, goes through creeks during trail rides often on a weekly basis, owner rides often outside of trail rides, to include jumping. Has had a lot of problems keeping steel shoes on since early summer to last a full cycle (4-6 weeks). Please keep in mind this is seemingly the problem for MANY this summer! This has been a really tough summer in Maryland for keeping shoes on for even half a normal cycle! We have faced so much heat, humidity, moisture from all the rain, etc, and if horses are out majority of the time, and or are in decent work, it’s been a real struggle to keep shoes on for a full cycle (AND THE FLIES horses stomping away for relief)! Even if your horse wears fly boots while turned out, those biting flies and midges are biting away at their under belly area so they will still use their feet to reach up under their belly to shoo flies and then stomp. After lots of consideration, to include the horses work load, pasture conditions, being out full time, trail riding over tough terrain, and the weather conditions playing a major role in hoof care and health, we chose as a team to go with Easy Care Performance Glue-on shoes.

Video from today’s case where the abscess juices were flowing out of the hoof with thumb pressure! Yummy. LOL. Always a beautiful smell. I almost didn’t find this track! I decided to rasp and knife just a bit more and BOOM, tiny little black dot less than the size of a pea showed up...that was all I needed to see to dig a little deeper! Always a good day to help an equine friend relieve their pain and help steadfast healing!!
