For horse owners.....

A multi-state outbreak of Equine Herpes Virus (EHV/EHM) has been reported in Texas and Oklahoma, linked to barrel racing and rodeo-type events. Maryland has one unrelated confirmed case.

Owners whose horses attended these events or any event should:
• Isolate horses for 21 days after last contact
• Monitor twice daily for fever, respiratory signs, or neurological symptoms
• Avoid sharing equipment or close contact with other horses
• Contact your veterinarian immediately if any signs appear
Event organizers and owners should follow strict biosecurity measures to prevent further spread.

Whether you are an individual, part of an organization, or a decision-maker, the time to act is today. Here are some key takeaways from our "Rabies in the U.S." infographic.
🔵 In 2023, rabid animals in the U.S. totaled 3,760 - an increase of 5.1% from 3,579 in 2022.
🦇 Bats were the most frequently reported rabid animal in the U.S. in 2023. Over 1/3 of animal rabies cases in the U.S. in 2023 were bats.
