INFAMY

Will always be remembered here at the Patch, as the Month of May, 2026

A bacterial virus swept through our shelter like a wildfire. Within 48 hours, every single resident was infected. Within eight (8) days, most recovered with antibiotics but 5 remained in serious condition, 3 in critical. All hands on deck.

Two days all clear, with one exception... my special needs, Tucker. Tucker (heart condition) remained in critical condition. Tucker was six years old.

Our heart is shattered.

Rest In Peace my shy little boy...🌷

MELANCHOLY

I don't know why. Just down today. Master-Paw-Paw noticed and had an idea. When the chips are down, I find the greatest comfort snuggling with her old pair of shelter shoes, so she placed them on the floor for me. I'm as content as a bug in a rug. Haven't moved in hours. 🐾

BENGAL/RACOON MISDEMEANOR

As the spokesman for my Patch family, I, Prince Bengal, would like to fess up to something I did today. Master Paw-Paw said it would be okay.

Today, during our last recess, a raccoon joined us in the courtyard where we have our social gathering. Everything was fine. It was a warm beautiful day. We played, enjoyed some treats, and had some chill time. Then Master Paw-Paw entered the picture carrying some supplies into the shelter. Suddenly, and out of nowhere, I ran across the courtyard and had a major fuss with the raccoon. I mean I meant business. I was showing my teeth and hissing like a snake! I don't know why? He wasn't even doing anything! This wasn't like me at all.

Well, the raccoon (Junior), quickly scaled the 6' privacy fence and was gone. I sat in a daze as all the other Patch Kitties were staring at me in disbelief including Master Paw-Paw. HTH? It all happened so fast! I have no defense. Something just came over me when I saw Master Paw-Paw too close to the raccoon...

I just had to protect her. I'm sorry Junior. 🐾

OUR NEPHEW

Spent the day with us. Gabby, took center stage by insisting he keep his attention focused on her. It worked! 🐾

Bippy

Last night while I was finishing the last shift of the shelter, Bippy got out. And there was nooooo catching him. Bippy is alpha male so it's a big deal if he gets out. Bippy (aka the terror) is tiny but thinks he is a pit bull. It was 3:30am, all my neighbors (and half the world) was asleep and here I am, out in the dark, with my headlight and flashlight, two curious racoons following me, trying to catch Bippy. Bippy is smart! He out-thinks my footsteps and knows all my tricks to catch him. Finally, I had no choice but to give up and go to bed... worried nonstop.

Three hours sleep, I'm up to look for Bippy. I found him all warm and snuggly curled up inside our heated outdoor igloo. I reached in and grabbed him and put him back in shelter. Bippy was so animated and happy to be home that I completely forgave him.

There is no greater feeling than knowing everyone is safe at home where they belong.
