Pet Helpers is a nonprofit 501(c)3 Rescue and Adoption Center that serves communities across the Lowcountry. Our mission is to end the euthanasia of all adoptable cats and dogs by keeping all animals until adopted; providing low cost spay/neuter surgeries; offering humane education programs; pursuing animal-cruelty prosecution; and initiating animal-welfare legislation. We also have a high quality

, low-cost Spay/Neuter Center that is open to the public. We offer vaccines, heartworm prevention/treatment, general surgeries, and routine medical care for your pet. Pet Helpers’ vision is to offer affordable, spay/neuter services and access basic wellness services to families across the Lowcountry. We offer these services to the general public but also focus aggressively on communities with high rates of animal reproduction and pets belonging to low-income populations. Increased accessibility to affordable spay neuter services and basic wellness care will reduce pet overpopulation and help to keep animals out of the shelter system.

The AC is back—and so is our gratitude. ❤️❄️
Just a few weeks ago, we faced a serious challenge: the AC units in our dog kennels broke down during the peak of summer.

We knew we couldn’t let our pups stay in those conditions—and neither could YOU.

💥 Charleston County stepped in with portable units.
💥 Over 200 people signed up to foster.
💥 Donations arrived. Volunteers kept showing up.
💥 And even those who shared our story made waves.

You showed up for our animals—and now, we’re thrilled to say…
👉 THE AC IS FIXED!

But the job’s not done. With dogs returning from foster care, kittens still tucked in every corner, and small critters crowding our lobby—we’re once again at full capacity.

Do you have a couch? A calm home? A heart big enough for one very sweet senior gal?

Meet Lilo, our 7-year-old, medium-sized queen of coziness. She’s a gentle soul who’s currently stuck in the chaos of the shelter—and let’s just say... it’s not exactly her vibe.

Lilo is the definition of low-maintenance luxury. She’s not asking for puppy playdates or wild adventures—just a quiet space, a human who’s home a lot (WFH friends, she’s looking at you 👀), and maybe a few couch snuggles. Okay, a lot of couch snuggles.

🛑 Ideal Home:
• No other pets, please—Lilo prefers to be your one and only
• Calm, cozy, and full of love (older kids only)
• Bonus points if you have snacks (she’s not picky)

We provide all supplies, vet care, and support—you provide the love. Even a temporary foster would make a world of difference right now.

Our lobby has officially been taken over by four very opinionated, snack-loving roommates who are ready to upgrade from “temporary tenants” to permanent pets — in YOUR home! 🏠💨

Meet the Guinea Gang — 4 adorable, 2-year-old male guinea pigs who are serving squeaks, sass, and synchronized snack time on the daily. These boys have been sharing space (and hay piles) like champs, but our small critter area is bursting at the seams, and they’re ready to spread out into loving homes of their own.

Double the Love, One Heart-Shaped Tail at a Time

Meet Turbo & Diesel—a bonded pair with a lifetime of love behind them and plenty more ahead. These two senior sweethearts have spent their lives side by side, and their tails say it all - literally forming a heart in the photo you're seeing 💞.

Diesel is your classic wise old soul: calm, quiet, and a fan of the slower things in life. He’s a bit shy at first, but once you earn his trust, he’s the kind of companion who will curl up next to you in a cozy spot and remind you to take a breath and just be.

Turbo is the cuddly yin to Diesel’s gentle yang, loving, affectionate, and still full of zooms in his heart. He does have hyperthyroidism, a condition that’s well-managed with twice-daily meds and regular checkups. His current treatment is working beautifully, and we’re here to walk you through everything you need to know.

They may be seniors, but their love? Timeless.

These two aren’t looking for much, just a quiet home, a cozy window seat, and someone to love them like they’ve always loved each other.

Meet Rhonda: The Comeback Queen 👑🐾

When Rhonda first arrived at Pet Helpers, she was 43 lbs of heartbreak, skinny, flea-covered, and just done with the world. But fast forward to now? This girl has packed on some well-deserved pounds, is soaking up love in her foster home, and is ready to finish her glow-up with the ultimate upgrade: a forever family.

Right now, Rhonda is crashing in a foster home while we wait on an AC repair (but that shouldn’t stop her, or any of our pups, from finding their forever homes.)
