Michael’s Barkery is a fun and innovative Pet Spa and Boutique that opened within Central Island Square, on Daniel Island, in the Fall of 2019. Our mission is to provide opportunities to make a difference in the lives of adults with cognitive disabilities while having fun supporting animal lovers. Our teammates are involved in all aspects of our production including making dough, cutting out the c
ookies, baking, and packaging. We would love an opportunity to meet with you, show you some sample cookies and options, and introduce you to some of our teammates. The magic behind Michael's Barkery all started with Michael! Michael was known as “The Mayor” at his New Hope Pennsylvania High School because of his engaging personality. Everyone he met knew he had a beloved dog named Sunshine. When it came time to do a senior project, with the goal of exploring career aspirations, the easy answer was for Michael to bake and sell dog treats. The treats were an instant success! This small, inspired event led to the vision and creation of Michael’s Barkery. Throughout Michael’s life his parents have tried to choose paths for him that would not limit him because of his intellectual disability but rather would focus on his strengths and abilities. If you think about it that is what everyone does. Everyone has things that they are good at and things we are not. Everybody all have likes and dislikes, as well as, their own gifts and talents. At Michael’s Barkery we recognize that everyone has God given talents and our mission is to offer employment to people with intellectual disabilities and utilizing their talents and abilities where we are able.
