Ever noticed a red, swollen lump in the corner of your pet’s eye? That’s cherry eye, a condition where the third eyelid’s tear gland prolapses. This condition is common in breeds like Bulldogs, Beagles, and Cocker Spaniels.

🍒 While cherry eye isn’t painful at first, if left untreated, it can lead to dry eye and infections. Surgery is often recommended to reposition the gland and prevent further damage.

If you’ve spotted this in your pet, don’t wait—early treatment leads to better outcomes!

Have you noticed your pet’s eyes looking cloudy or hazy? They could be developing cataracts, a condition that affects vision by blocking light from reaching the retina. While cataracts are common in senior pets, they can also be caused by genetics, diabetes, or eye injuries.

The good news? Cataract surgery can restore vision and improve your pet’s quality of life! If you see changes in your pet’s eyes, early detection is key.

If your pet has seasonal allergies, their eyes can show several signs of irritation. Here’s what to watch for:

🐾 Redness & Inflammation – Eyes may appear bloodshot or swollen.
🐾 Excessive Tearing – Increased watery discharge, sometimes mistaken for normal tearing.
🐾 Itchy Eyes – Frequent pawing or rubbing their face against furniture or the floor.
🐾 Squinting or Blinking More Than Usual – A sign of discomfort or irritation.
🐾 Nasal Discharge – Allergies can sometimes cause sneezing and a runny nose along with eye symptoms.
🐾 Goopy or Mucus-Like Discharge – A thicker, sticky discharge could indicate secondary infections.

If your pet is showing any of these signs, a visit with us can help determine if allergies, infections, or another issue is the cause. Antihistamines, eye drops, or other treatments may provide relief! 💗

Fun fact: Alligators have a built-in pair of goggles! 🐊🕶️

They have a special third eyelid, called a nictitating membrane, that acts like a transparent shield, protecting their eyes while swimming underwater. It lets them see clearly while staying stealthy! 👀💦

Have you noticed your pet bumping into things, hesitating on stairs, or developing a cloudy appearance in their eyes? 👀 These could be signs of cataracts, a common eye condition that can affect dogs and cats as they age.

🔍 What are cataracts?
Cataracts cause the lens of the eye to become cloudy, leading to blurry vision or even blindness if left untreated.

Signs to Watch For:
☁️ Cloudy or bluish-gray eyes
💡 Difficulty seeing in low light
🐾 Increased clumsiness
⚠️ Hesitation or fear in new environments

✨ With early detection and proper care, many pets can maintain their quality of life! An eye exam can determine the best course of action, whether it’s monitoring the condition or discussing treatment options.
