👁️ Ever wonder what’s really going on inside your pet’s eye?

Here’s a quick peek at the amazing anatomy that helps your dog or cat see the world around them:

1. Cornea
The clear, outer surface of the eye—helps focus light.
2. Iris
The colored part of the eye—controls how much light enters.
3. Pupil
The black opening that changes size with light—like a camera lens.
4. Lens
Sits behind the iris—focuses light onto the retina. Can become cloudy with cataracts.
5. Retina
The light-sensitive layer at the back of the eye—sends visual signals to the brain.
6. Optic Nerve
The connection from the eye to the brain—essential for vision.
7. Third Eyelid (Nictitating Membrane)
A hidden eyelid that protects and lubricates the eye—can become visible when a pet is sick or injured.

Ever wondered what happens during a pet eye exam? 👁️ Here’s a step-by-step look to help you feel confident and prepared!

🩺 First, we’ll ask about your pet’s eye history and any symptoms you’ve noticed. Then we perform a gentle visual inspection to check for redness, cloudiness, discharge, or squinting.

🧪 We may use special fluorescein stain to highlight scratches or ulcers on the cornea, followed by a tear test to check for dry eye.

📏 A tonometry test helps us measure eye pressure and screen for glaucoma—quick and painless!

🔦 Finally, we assess vision and examine deeper eye structures with an ophthalmoscope.

Throughout the visit, your pet’s comfort is our priority. We use low-stress techniques, soft voices, and lots of treats. 🐶🐱

If your pet is showing signs of eye discomfort or changes in vision, don’t wait—early detection makes all the difference. Request an exam today! 💗

👁️ Common Eye Conditions in Pets: What to Watch For!

Did you know pets can develop many of the same eye problems as people? From dry, irritated eyes to vision-threatening conditions, staying informed can help protect your pet’s sight.

🔹 Cataracts – Opacities within the lens of the eye that can affect vision; common in aging dogs and diabetics.
🔹 Glaucoma – Increased eye pressure causing pain and blindness if untreated; often seen in certain dog breeds.
🔹 Dry Eye (KCS) – Inadequate tear production leading to discomfort and discharge; frequent in brachycephalic (short-nosed) breeds.
🔹 Corneal Ulcers – Painful wounds on the eye surface; affects both dogs and cats.
🔹 Cherry Eye – A red mass in the corner of the eye caused by a pr*****ed tear gland; common in young dogs.

🐾 Know the signs and which pets are most at risk—especially flat-faced breeds, seniors, and those with chronic conditions. Early diagnosis is key!
