So thankful to still have our Minka. She trains w me everyday. She knows dogs better than any human ever could. She is my reality check for my own feelings and energy and she provides so much more than just a working dog or companion.
This weekend, we could have lost her to bloat.

She was diagnosed w inflammatory bowel disease at 1 y/o and is now 5. Her stomach is tacked. However, while her gastropexy helps the stomach not to flip, it does not stop her belly from filling up w gas.

She eats w an elevated bowl, is not active before or after she eats, is on 9 different daily medications and supplements to keep her disease managed, and eats a clean novel protein and carb diet as she is extremely sensitive to what she eats. She is never left unsupervised outside even in a fenced area so we know what she’s doing. Yet all of this still is not foolproof.

When she is triggered w a flare up, it is unpredictable and we have nothing to attribute it to.

Thankfully, I know when it’s happening, how much we can do for her at home, and when it’s time to get her to an ER. Quite honestly, it is nothing more than luck that one of these flare ups have not taken her from us forever.

We are thankful for all of you!🫶🩵
