Hello to all our HSLC followers. I wanted to update everyone that the shelter is now closed. Our last three dogs have been placed in foster homes. The building has no personality now without any animals. It is just an empty building now. The phone number has been disconnected and the security cameras are still running.
I want to thank Alisa and Ben for the continued work until I could get all the animals placed in foster care or adopted. I am very proud of the work we have done over the many years of operation. We will be dissolving our board of directors so we can pass our 501C to a new group to take over the building and I wish them well. I don’t know the name of the new group or a date they plan to reopen at this time. Our page and email hslucascounty.com will stay active so fellow adopters can share updates and contact me if you need something.
Just last week this goofy boy, Rosco, was in the Kansas City doggy jail and thanks to his avid chip they were able to contact me so we could him back into his home and out of jail. I want to thank all of our past employees, volunteers, board members and most importantly our fellow adopters and financial supporters over the years. A big thanks to my parents for spending many years of their retirement time volunteering. Without them, it could not have been successful. I want to leave you with a photo of the first dog Judy Johnson took in at the HSLC (Sasha) and the last dog I took in (Buck) plus the many years in between those adoptions and a lot of hard work — I would not have missed it for anything! - Jim Morgan, President of the Humane Society of Lucas County
