These two precious souls were found abandoned behind the dump today in Chanute, KS. 💔

Both are spayed/neutered and microchipped. We have reached out to the listed owner but have not received a response. If you have any information about these sweet furbabies, please message us so we can notify the appropriate authorities.

The Boxer mix is having issues with one of her eyes and will be heading to the vet in the morning for evaluation.

Penny and Grace have seen every other dog come in and get adopted, but they're still here. Penny is an amazing girl that loves hard and plays hard. She needs a proper introduction with other dogs and can be a little bossy, but once she approves, they're her best friend! She is a world class athlete and snuggler. She can and will go over a 5 foot fence, so she either needs a home that will take her for walks or has a 6 foot privacy fence.

Grace is a gorgeous, sweet and smart Lab. She was heartworm positive, but has completed her treatment and is looking for her new home. Grace is leery of new men, so they would need to go slow with her until she learns you're not going to hurt her. She loves to wrestle and play with the other dogs, but she likes to cuddle also.

What is Castaways?

Castaways Animal Shelter and Sanctuary was originally founded in 2004. The original founders saw a need for a non-kill animal shelter that provided a safe haven until they could be adopted. Castaways was formed as a 501(c)3 organization in order to pursue a non-profit organizational structure to shelter cats and dogs in Neosho County and beyond. From 2004-2016, Castaways was focused on raising funds to build a shelter facility and in 2016, groundbreaking commenced after land was donated on Harper Rd, east of Chanute. With continued support and new partnerships, Castaways will become a reality in 2019.
