Walking into the weekend like…At this point, all of these pups have learned every cue that they’re gonna hear for the rest of their training. The next few weeks will be geared into adding duration and the right amount of distractions so that those obedience cues can practically e used in real life.

I’d love to say that it’s a perfect trip every time I take a dog out in public, but that’s just not the case, and it’s not the goal either. The truth is, you’ll never be able to learn how your dog is able to recover from something if they don’t get the chance to. We go into a dog friendly place with 1 goal. Have a very uneventful trip and then leave. The first couple of trips are for the dog. Not for me to buy anything or search for something that I should get when it’s better for me to get it when I don’t have to put too much pressure on the dog. Too much chaos at once can take a great outing and make it a really cruddy one. Are you gonna go to the checkout line and have someone stand way closer than what you can handle? Are they gonna get bumped by a cart? Take those first couple of times and prove to your dog that nothing is gonna happen. Then in time….They’ll believe you

That tight grip, wrap the leash around your hand, hold on for dear life thing that you do with the leash… Your dog can feel that. But more importantly, it puts you in the mindset of not thinking about what they’re doing. When you stop, are they stopping with you? What about when you speed up and slow down?

When you take your dog out for a walk, do they ever give you the idea that it’s beneficial for them to check in with you? If not, chances are high that there are some other areas where they couldn’t care less about what you think. Sure, you’d love to maybe reward them with a treat when they do something that you like, but if they haven’t learned how to get rewarded, you’re just the person at the end of the leash keeping them from all of the stuff they wanna get to.
