One year ago, Modern Pet Care made its first stop in Bucks County with a van, a vision, and a team invested enough in each other to take a leap of faith together.

In the past year, we have built something we are genuinely proud of. A client family we love, a team we believe in, and a standard of care we hold ourselves to every day. Year one taught us so much, how to be adaptive, how to navigate the challenges of mobile and small business ownership, and how to build some of the most meaningful relationships with the clients and pets we serve.

We are just getting started, and there is a lot on the horizon. Thank you for trusting us with your dogs, we can't wait for year two.

I know, I know. We have featured Penny before for falling asleep during her nail trim. She has done it again, this time during her blueberry facial, and we absolutely had to share!

Bulldogs are iconic for their face folds, and those folds need regular maintenance to stay clean and healthy. Our process: a gentle facial scrub, careful towel drying, and then a veterinary approved ear cleaner applied to a gauze strip and wiped through each fold. The gauze keeps excess liquid away from the eyes while still delivering the active ingredients where they need to go.

The ear cleaner we use contains soothing aloe vera as well as boric and acetic agents to control bacteria, yeast, and fungus. These are the same conditions that can affect any warm, moist area, including ears and face folds. This is a trick I picked up after five years in a veterinary salon, and it works.

Meet Ash, a Keeshond (pronounced kayz-hawnd) who is one of the most enthusiastic participants in the shedding season we have ever met.

Keeshonds are a double coated breed, which means their coat has two distinct layers working together. The guard coat is the outer layer: the longer, shinier, colored hairs that give Ash her striking markings. Beneath that is the undercoat, a dense, downy layer of secondary hairs that insulates against both cold and heat. As temperatures rise, that undercoat releases, and if you are wondering how much that is, the answer is in the photo.

Double coated breeds like Ash require de-shedding work rather than clipping. Removing the guard coat does not reduce shedding and can actually interfere with the coat's ability to regulate temperature and protect the skin. What it does need is thorough bathing, proper drying technique, and dedicated tools to release the undercoat without disrupting what is above it.

Ash was an absolute pleasure and left looking polished and considerably lighter. The van is still recovering.

Meet Roman and Benji. Littermates reunited for a joint spa day by the family who loves them both.

Roman is a regular, and he runs his appointments like a little man with somewhere to be. Calm, collected, dignified. Benji came in for his first visit with the energy of someone who has never once had a bad day in his life, and we loved every second of it.

One look at Roman and Benji had his vision locked in. Same style, same vibe. We're happy to make that happen.

A quick reminder that Modern Pet Care is a professional operation staffed by dedicated individuals who take their work very seriously.

Sherman's responsibilities include morale, brand representation, the occasional nap between stops, and apparently, route navigation. We have no notes.

You are not seeing double!

Lucy and Lilah are littermate sisters, adopted by family members and reunited for their spa day. The second Lucy realized Lilah was joining her, she made her feelings very clear. Wiggling butt, wagging tail, full-body excitement from the moment they were together.

Lilah, for her part, was not immediately convinced the van was a good idea. Lucy disagreed, and led by example. She went first for everything, showed her sister the ropes, and proved that there was nothing to worry about. Lilah followed her lead without hesitation, right up until the nail filing, which she had some opinions about.

First-time clients with a nervous dog? Apparently all you need is a loving sister by your side.

Coco Chanel never questions whether the room is ready for her. It always is. She brings the sass, the presence, and the energy every single time.
She is her mom's whole world and Sherman's too. With a well-documented history of loving cheeky redheads, Sherman is completely head over heels for this lovely lady.

💗 Trust Looks Like This 💗

Baylee was born completely blind.

For her, grooming isn’t just about looking polished for Valentine’s Day. It’s about safety, communication, and trust.

With Baylee, we narrate what’s coming next. We give gentle physical cues before we move. When it’s time for nails, she gets a tap on the shoulder and a quiet, “Baylee, this one.” Every step is intentional.

It took time, years really, of listening to her comfort levels and adjusting our approach. She wasn’t a fan of poodle clean feet, and instead of pushing through, we respected her boundaries.

And something beautiful happened.

When she realized her comfort mattered, she softened. What once felt stressful became predictable. What once brought tension became calm.

At Modern Pet Care, grooming isn’t about forcing a standard look. It’s about meeting each dog where they are physically, emotionally, and behaviorally.

Baylee may not see the hearts around her, but she feels the care. 💕
