Hello CCAC family,
Here is an Update on CIRDS (11/21/23) for those concerned.

We are aware of the recent news stories involving unusual cases of canine infectious respiratory disease syndrome (CIRDS) in Oregon. While we have seen an increase in kennel cough cases over the last year as COVID restrictions have decreased, we are unaware of any cases (or reports of cases) in our area with signs similar to those in the reported Oregon cases (rapid onset of pneumonia, unresponsive to antibiotics, no know causative agent, increased mortality.)

As we all know, respiratory disease can spread rapidly, especially during the holidays. To keep your dog as safe as possible, please make sure they are current on vaccinations. If at all possible, avoid contact with other dogs, including dog parks, boarding or daycare situations.

Meet Tabitha (aka Tabby) our newest fur-ceptionist.
She was a stray, & wisely chose one of our employees to be her new momma. She wanted to show off her pretty dress today ❤️🐈👗😻

Canine Influenza🦠🦠🦠 cases are on the rise in our area. This virus is easily spread from dog to dog. Those who frequently board or attend doggie daycare are at high risk. Getting your dog vaccinated for canine influenza may not prevent infection altogether, but it may reduce the severity and duration of the illness. Vaccination consists of 2 boosters 2-4 weeks apart.
Symptoms of dog flu are loss of appetite, moist or dry cough, runny nose🤧, low-grade fever🌡, and lack of energy. If your pet is exhibiting any of these symptoms, especially after spending time around other dogs, please reach out to us (or your regular vet).
Avoiding dog parks, daycare, boarding facilities is recommended. Pet sitters are a great alternative☺️ Or consider boarding your pet closer to your destination, instead of NoVa.

**UPDATE- kitties are enjoying their wonderful new home!! Thanks to everyone that shared! **

We are fostering a pair of bonded kitties who need a home! Fergus (white chest and nose) and Ruby (orange face) are brother and sister who have been together since birth. They love attention from humans almost as much as they love each other! Ruby is very outgoing and will stand on her tiny hind legs just to say hello and get some head rubs! Fergus is content with sitting on your lap all day long while getting some love. They are about 4 years old and are some of the sweetest cats we have ever met. They are spayed/neutered, up-to-date on their vaccinations and are waiting for their new furever home 🐱💕
