This is not my words, but exactly how I feel, and so very spot on!!
I can’t help but think about what being a breeder really means….
It’s not just about cute kittens and playful photos. It’s a commitment, one that takes your time, your heart, your money, and sometimes even your peace.
Behind every perfect kitten photo is a breeder who:
• Skipped vacations because mama was due any minute
• Spent WEEKS studying genetics, colors, bloodlines, and health panels just to make one careful, intentional pairing
• Missed sleep for nights in a row, bottle feeding every two hours around the clock
• Sat on the floor at 3 a.m. crying, begging a fading baby to hold on and still had to wipe the tears away and show up for the rest of the litter
• Held a tiny body in their hands as it took its last breath
• Said no to a family that wanted a kitten because deep down you knew it wasn’t the right fit for the kitten
• Packed up and drove hours or sat in airports to make sure a baby got where they needed to go
You don’t just become a breeder you become a mother to every baby and every breeding cat.
You become a geneticist, diving into coat colors, health history, and inheritance risks most people have never even heard of.
You become a nurse, a cleaner, a vet tech, a photographer, a media professional, a logistics coordinator, and a full-time caretaker.
You wear every hat. You carry every responsibility. And you love so hard that it hurts.
You give up trips. You delay plans. You rearrange your life around tiny due dates and vulnerable newborns.
You pour thousands into food, supplies, ultrasounds, vaccines, testing and you do it without hesitation because their lives depend on it.
And yet… you wouldn’t trade it for anything.
But then there are the good days.
When that once fragile kitten finally purrs for the first time.
When the new family sends updates and you see your baby sleeping safely in a child’s arms.
When someone tells you, “I didn’t think I could love like this. thank you.”
That’s why we do it.
Not for the money.
Not for the praise.
But for the love.
The deep, overwhelming love we have for these animals.
For the breed. For the future. For the joy they bring to others.
