With Christmas fast approaching Please Please Please do not buy birds as christmas presents for others or even for yourself without doing research and truly asking yourself if you are ready for the 15, 20, 50 or 100 yr commitment. Are you prepared to calmly react and reinforce good behaviors while ignoring bad behaviors(like biting) in hopes that they diminish or go away(because sometimes they get worse before they get better or they don't get better at all). Are you prepared for the constant mess(poop, feathers, food, water) everywhere? Are you prepared for the destructive natural nature of some xl birds like Macaws? Do you have enough time to give species that bond strongly like cockatoos, ring necks, senegal, parrotlets, quakers? What happens if you die(we all are going to die) and your bird is in his/her prime? We love our Birds, enjoy their company, Advocate for them and wish everyone could experience their awesomeness but the harsh truth is some people need to volunteer at a rescue or visit a sanctuary to experience these guys because not every person and/life style is bird friendly and thats ok. Do your research, visit a shelter/rescue/Sanctuary, talk to people who share their lives with these amazing critters, make a plan and a plan for your plan and a back up plan for your plans, know 100% that you are prepared to commit to the amazingly worth it full time entire life commitment of sharing your world with a bird before you on a whim bring a feathered friend home.
