The Merrick County Sheriff’s Office is assisting in trying to find the owner of this dog that was found around the Fort Kearney Road area over the weekend. This dog is currently at the Central City Vet.

Lonestar Tick follow-up — The clinic had a client out in a pasture this afternoon and pulled off a lone star tick. He wanted a product opinion for clothing that could help repel this tick. One option is to use Sawyers on your pant legs/clothing (not directly on your skin) if you’re out in the tick’s environment (pastures, creek/riverbeds, trail systems, etc). Do NOT use this product on animals. This product is readily available at hardware and outdoor/camping outlet stores.

The lone star tick is on the rise and it’s one you don’t want to mess with. This aggressive reddish-brown tick (female has a single white “star” on her back) is tied to tick‑borne diseases like ehrlichiosis in people and dogs, and it can even trigger a red‑meat allergy called alpha‑gal syndrome.

This tick was discovered on a house dog last week at the clinic. Be on the lookout and ask the team at CCVet how you can avoid and prevent contact with this pesky critter.
