From Fear to Confidence — Meet Harry! 🐾

When Harry first arrived, he was a real challenge — lunging, snapping, and struggling with severe fear aggression. He had to be muzzled and lacked confidence in every situation.

After just 4 weeks in our Board & Train program, Harry has made an incredible transformation! 🙌
He’s now able to go out in public calmly and confidently, coexisting peacefully with new environments, people, and distractions. He’s learned to trust again, built confidence, and can perform all his commands even in real-life situations.

We’re beyond proud of how far Harry has come and can’t wait to show his owners all the amazing progress he’s made — and how to keep building on this success at home. 💪❤️

🐾Training Status update on River and his owner.

River went through our training program a couple months back. River had a bite record and severe anxiety prior to training. This is what his owner had to say about his annual check up at the veterinary clinic. We are so proud of River and his owner for continuing the training at home.

Owner’s comment: 👇
“Hey just wanted to share a story from today…

I took River to the vet to get a couple vaccines updated, they hadn’t seen him since his training. He was a completely different dog, no stress, no anxiety, he was a rockstar. Before, we would have to give him Tramadol and then he was also on Prozac just to get him through the lobby. They couldn’t believe it was him.

I was working on some down stays in the lobby and placed him on one of the benches. A vet tech was watching me and asked if she could hire me to train her dog! 🤣

His actual vet couldn’t believe it was him, he got his shots like it was nothing. When we got back out into the lobby I had him placed on the bench until it was our turn to pay. He and I were just watching all the other dogs go crazy in the lobby. I think I have about 3 referrals heading your way hahaha. They all asked where he was trained. He was so confident and proud. It’s so relieving not having to worry about vet visits anymore. 😅Thanks again!”

💔 Class Cancellation Announcement 💔

Due to the loss of one of our biggest supporters — a loving grandmother, mother, and friend — Got Your Six Dog Training will be canceling group classes this Wednesday.

Classes will resume Thursday, November 6th at 6 PM.

My grandmother, Susan Stevens, was a truly wonderful woman who shared my love and passion for animals. She was one of my biggest cheerleaders and never missed a chance to tell others, “My granddaughter owns a dog training business — and she’s the best in the world!”

She will be deeply missed, but her love, kindness, and support will always be remembered. ❤️🐾

🐾 Temperament Testing Day! 🐾

Today we spent some time temperament testing our puppies to see which ones have the best potential to become future service dogs — and which ones will make absolutely amazing family companions. A big thank you to Caden for all the help today! 😊

Here’s a peek at a few of the things we tested for:

• Social Attraction & Following – How eager each puppy is to follow and engage with people. Strong people-focus is key for service work!
• Body Sensitivity – We gently handled paws, ears, and muzzles to see how comfortable they are being touched — important for vet visits and grooming.
• Sound Sensitivity – We checked how they reacted to sudden noises and how quickly they recovered. A confident pup might startle, but bounces back fast.
• Play & Prey Drive – How much interest they show in toys, tug, and chase games. The best pups have a nice balance of fun and focus.
• Food Motivation & Problem Solving – We tested how driven they are to earn treats and solve little puzzles — great traits for learning new skills!
• Recovery After a Startle – We looked for pups that can quickly calm down and re-engage after something unexpected.
• Independence & Willingness to Work – We gently restrained each pup to see how they handle a bit of control — this helps us understand trainability and confidence.

Honestly, every single one of these pups did amazing. Each has their own special strengths and personality. While a few will move forward in our service dog program, others will be ready to find loving forever homes soon! ❤️🐶

🐾 Puppy Training Tip #1: Potty Training & Crate Training
1. Skip the potty pads!
Avoid using potty or grass pads inside your home. They only confuse your pup and encourage them to potty on rugs or carpets later on. Even after the pads are gone, puppies will often keep going back to that same spot!
2. Use door bells and a consistent command.
Hang a set of dog bells by the door you’ll always use for potty breaks. Every time you take your puppy out, ring the bells and say, “Let’s go potty!”
Before long, your pup will start ringing the bells when they need to go out — how cool is that?
3. Take them to the same potty spot every time.
Routine helps your puppy understand what’s expected. Remember, potty time is not playtime. If they don’t go, bring them back inside for a couple of minutes, then try again. Consistency is key here!
4. No free feeding — and control water access.
Feed your puppy on a schedule and only in their crate. This helps prevent food aggression and makes it easier to predict potty times. Take your puppy outside shortly after each meal or drink.
5. No free roaming!
Limit your puppy’s space with baby gates or playpens. Too much freedom too soon leads to accidents, chewing, and bad habits.
When you can’t supervise, your puppy should be in their crate — not as punishment, but for their safety and to build good structure early on.

Puppy training takes patience, consistency, and time — but start with these steps, and you’ll be amazed at how quickly your little one catches on! 💪🐾
