TELL ME HOW YOU WOULD HANDLE THIS………….
I go to the IBHA World Show – Spend over $600 to participate in 2 classes – doesn’t include my camping or my gas money to get there and back.
CLASS- DUN FACTOR – 17 horses in the class being judged by 5 judges (the 5th judge is a tie breaker judge). Judge #1 placed my horse “Hve A Drink On Me” 2nd, Judges #2 & #3 placed me 1st, Judge #4 placed me 9th and Judge #5 doesn’t even place me in the top 10.
ANNOUNCE STANDINGS – I am placed 6th overall.
I go to my trailer and research/review the 2024 IBHA Rule Book. Given the size of the class and my placings I should have been the IBHA World Champion Dun Factor.
I go to speak to the Show Secretary to discuss and understand what just happened.
The IBHA Representative states that the World Show points are calculated differently and points to the calculation/distribution of points written in the pamphlet given to every exhibitor. I proceed to use the point system printed in the pamphlet and once AGAIN – I should have been the IBHA World Champion Dun Factor.
At this point, the Show Secretary steps in and starts presenting a totally different way to calculate points for the show – stating that the 5th judge not placing me is why I was placed 6th. She starts her calculations and realizes that things are not adding up the way they should based upon the placements assigned and announced. She states “I’m not saying this is the calculations used – this is just to show you how you ended up 6th” . I again inquire, based upon the miscalculation she was using, requested to see how the show was judged and calculated. She pulls the records, which used the point system in the show pamphlet and LOW AND BEHOLD the Show Secretary says – my points are the highest and I should be the IBHA World Champion Dun Factor. She asks me to bring my 6th place ribbon back and to allow her some time to get the trophy back from the announced winner.
I go to retrieve my ribbon. When I get back to the Show Office, I am asked to please wait. I return after approximately 30 minutes, and I am told that I am not going to like the outcome……. NOW the Show Secretary says that the “new point system” – a system that none of the participants, the Executive Board nor the IBHA Representative was aware of – is in fact the system being used to judge the show. And that based on that – there was a 3 way tie for 2nd place and unfortunately, the tie breaker judge didn’t place me so I PLACED 4th. I protested that the World Show is sanctioned by IBHA and should therefore follow IBHA rules. However, there was no change and I walked away with 4th place when in my mind according to all their printed data (the 2024 IBHA Rule Book and their Pamphlet for the show) as well as the Show Secretary stated and recounted several times, My horse “Hve A Drink On Me” should be the 2024 IBHA World Champion Dun Factor.
Upon further research it was found that 2 horses in my dun factor class were missed and did not get judged.
