Here at the Dachshund Dude Ranch we try to place our retired Moms and Dads in loving pet homes, but sometimes it just doesn't work. Sometimes a dog has medical issues that we feel we are best equipped to handle and sometimes they just simply do better in a "pack" home.
We also take our dogs back at any time. We've even had one of our DDR dogs returned home to us later in life along with their buddy (not a DDR dog). Both dogs were in poor health when they came to us, the buddy had to be put down (which we did) and the DDR dog we nursed back to health, but he will be a lifer here as he has medical issues that require too much attention to put on a family.
We have a few of those dogs - "lifers", as we call them. Titan (pictured) may end up being one of them. He is super sweet with us, but does not meet strangers well, so meet and greets have not gone well. The reality is, he his a HARD adoptee. And that's okay. We'll still be open to the perfect home - one with extreme patience and no children - but if Titan stays here for the next 10 years, that's fine by us! That's our responsibility
