Every one of these faces has earned a permanent spot in my heart.

On paper, they’re appointments on a schedule. But in reality, they’re the cast of characters that make this job impossible not to love.

The one who’s convinced the blow dryer is their mortal enemy.

The rescue who took weeks to decide I might be trustworthy.

The drama queen who believes every bath deserves an Oscar.

The gentle giant who still thinks they’re a lap dog.

The treat negotiator. The fashion icon.

But after time, they become more than a client. you learn who they are on the inside and what makes them tick.

Who likes chicken over cheese.

Who needs a few extra minutes before we start.

Who loves a towel after the bath.

Who melts into your shoulder when they’re feeling unsure.

Those little details aren’t random.

They’re what I call Trust Deposits, every small moment where a dog learns, “This person listens to me.”

The haircut lasts a few weeks but the relationship can last a lifetime.

The haircut is included. My unsolicited narration…free of charge.

Some groomers work in silence. Meanwhile, I’m over here like…

“Okayyyy, first we’re gonna sniff absolutely everything. Then we’ll have a few snacks. Then a little cuddle because you’re clearly going through something. Then two shampoos. Then conditioner. Then another snack because you were incredibly brave for standing there. Then we’ll dry you buttttt only after we’ve had a serious conversation about why the dryer is not your mortal enemy. Then brushing. Then a haircut. Then another snack because you looked at me. Then we’ll try on approximately 14 adorable outfits until we find your color. Then your own personal runway show. Then pictures. Then you go home and act like you did all the work.”

I don’t know if I’m grooming dogs or hosting a podcast they’re forced to attend. I’m Italian, talking was never optional. 🇮🇹

There is a reason behind all the yapping. A calm, familiar voice can be reassuring for many dogs. But every dog is different, and If I notice a dog needs quiet instead of conversation, I’ll happily zip it.

My job is to pay attention to the dog in front of me, so yes your dog gets a fresh haircut, plenty of treats, and, depending on their preference, uninterrupted commentary from start to finish.

Progress doesn’t always happen during the groom. Sometimes it happens in the months between them.

This was Lucy’s best appointment yet.

Originally, her groom was scheduled as one visit, but with the heat and humidity, I decided to split it into two. That gave me the time to slow down and focus on something Lucy has always struggled with: her deshed before the bath and blow dry.

For years, there were parts of her body she simply didn’t want touched. Her back legs. Her belly. Her hindquarters. Those areas were always a challenge, and I respected that.

Today was different.

For the first time, Lucy allowed me to thoroughly brush and deshed her entire body. No rushing. No forcing. Just quiet cooperation.

The biggest reason?

Her mom.

Between appointments, she’s been practicing gentle brushing at home. Lucy comes to see me every few months, so those little moments at home yielded the biggest gain. They helped Lucy learn that brushing isn’t something to fear.

By the time she stepped into the van today, we weren’t starting from zero.

Once all that loose undercoat was removed, I followed with one of my favorite coat care routines: a conditioning treatment before the bath, two shampoos, and a final conditioning treatment, allowing each product several minutes to do its job instead of rinsing it away immediately.

The result wasn’t just a cleaner coat. It was a healthier one.

My time with Lucy is a great example of how grooming is a team effort. The work I do every few months is important, but what happens at home between visits can completely change a dog’s experience.

Lucy, I’m so proud of you. And Mom…thank you for putting in the work. Today, it showed.

I almost missed this groom. The accident wasn’t exactly part of the plan… but neither was what happened next.

If you’ve been following along, you know my grooming van was recently involved in an accident. That meant Leia’s appointment had to be finished in a way neither of us expected.

The first half of her groom happened before the accident. If you watch the beginning of this reel, you’ll see her sweet human brother lifting her into the van because it just felt too overwhelming for her to climb in on her own. Once inside, she quietly curled up in the corner, trying her best to process everything around her.

For the second half, I brought the salon to her.

A portable grooming setup, an outdoor workspace, and a Bernese Mountain Dog who still wasn’t convinced this whole grooming thing was her favorite activity.

But something changed.

Leia let me work through every bit of that impacted undercoat she’d been hanging onto. She stayed in her familiar sitting position almost the entire appointment, but she trusted me enough to keep going.

Her spa day included one of my favorite coat recovery routines: a deep conditioning treatment, two gentle shampoos, and one final conditioning treatment to lock moisture back into her coat.
The shine at the end, is she not the prettiest babes in all the land right there! 🥰😍

I’m just so proud of her, great job Leila!

Some dogs have personality. Meechie has 4 piña coladas waiting for him and absolutely no intention of answering emails.

Tiny, yet mighty he is proof that confidence has nothing to do with size.

Sometimes it’s simply a fresh groom, a loud floral shirt, and the vibe he’s about to treat the van like his own personal resort runway.

The rest of us?? underdressed. 😆

POV: No snacks. No service. 🍗

Olive has her priorities, and she makes them very clear.

The moment she hops into the van, it’s snacks and belly rubs first. Business second.

If it were up to her, we’d spend the entire appointment tossing treats into her mouth like she’s sitting at a hibachi grill, catching up on the latest neighborhood dog gossip, and collecting belly rubs instead of actually grooming.

Need her to step forward?

“What’s the payment?”

Need her to hop onto the table?

“I’m listening…”

Need just a little extra enthusiasm?

“Duck will do.”

Truthfully, Olive isn’t trying to outsmart me. She’s showing me exactly what she values—and that’s one of the best tools I have as her groomer.

Every dog has a different kind of currency. Some work for toys. Some work for praise. Some just want a good butt scratch.

Olive?

She’s happily accepting payment in snacks… with belly rub bonuses.

And honestly, she’s negotiated a pretty solid contract. 💙

Well… this wasn’t exactly part of the plan.

Last Friday, my grooming van was involved in an accident.

Thankfully, no one was injured, but the van sustained enough damage that it’s temporarily out of commission while repairs are underway.

As many of you know, this van is more than transportation. It’s my salon, my office, and my livelihood. I’ll be doing everything I can behind the scenes to get it repaired safely and back on the road so I can get back to doing what I love: caring for your dogs.

I truly appreciate everyone’s patience, flexibility, and kind messages over the past few days. It hasn’t gone unnoticed.

I’ll continue sharing updates as I have them, and I’m looking forward to seeing everyone again soon.

Thank you for your support—it truly means the world to me. In the meantime, I hope this reel gives you a good chuckle like it gave me. 😅

I have a confession.

Some of my clients have me professionally trained.

If you don’t already know her, meet Matilda.

When I first met her, I most likely thought, “I’m the groomer. I’ll decide how this appointment goes.”

Matilda respectfully disagreed.

She said, “Actually… we’re doing my nails first while Mom is here.”

Fair enough. Now that’s exactly what we do.

And it works beautifully. I’m not just learning grooming techniques, I’m also learning about your dog and their specific needs.

One dog does better with five minutes to sniff the van.

Another needs a handful of treats.

Another needs the dryer turned down.

Matilda needs a game plan that starts with her nails.

The funny part is, once you stop trying to win every little battle, there are a whole lot fewer to fight.

So yes…

Technically I’m the groomer.

But every now and then my clients remind me who’s really running the appointment.

…and my favorite little bulldog has an excellent management
