When my aging lab Ruby was enduring pain from her Osteo Arthritis and the bone spurs on her hips, I knew that every day with her was a gift. I knew she was close to dying. When she woke up one day, completely disoriented and couldn’t stand, I knew it was time. We soon learned that she had a brain bleed and she wouldn’t recover.
We needed to make arrangements, but I couldn’t even talk. My partner had to make the calls to find an in-home euthanasia service. I was still scared about making the choice let Ruby go, but I knew it needed to happen. Dr. Daigler came the next day and provided a peaceful passage.
Making the decision that it’s time say goodbye is so hard. I couldn’t speak to anyone. I meet many pet parents who go through the same thing. Sometimes when pet parents call our office, I can hear that same struggle to speak. I offer the opportunity to switch to texting because I understand what it’s like to be completely lost for words.
