Welcome Boris! 🐺
Boris is the flagship puppy for our Started Service Dogs program. He will be living and learning with us for 6-8 months in preparation for being placed as a Service Dog in Training. He's a 10-week-old Standard Poodle who will grow to about 40-45 lbs!
Over the next handful of months, he will be learning:
🦮 - All his basic obedience, including heel, sit, down, stand, stay, and recall
🦮- Public access skills, such as coming closer to his handler, tucking out of the way, settling for long periods, and not sniffing shelves or approaching dogs/strangers
🦮 - Task foundations, including retrievals, nose touch, and front paw target
🦮 - Socialization, so he is comfortable and confident for car rides, around other animals and kids, grooming, being handled, and continuing training in public with his future handler!
Once his training is finished and we have found the right placement, he will be delivered to his new handler and I will spend 1-2 full days conducting one-on-one placement training with them to make sure all those skills transfer smoothly. Applications for him will open in a few months, but for now see his highlight on my profile to join his contact list and be the first to know when they do!
We are collaborating with .poodles (Boris's breeder) on this project and his future home will also receive their support and information! He will be available anywhere in the continuous 48 United States, and I will be traveling with him to conduct his delivery. Everyone involved is super excited for this project and to watch this little boy succeed.
