As we wrap up National Volunteer Week, we want to send a HUGE thank you to our CVHS volunteer family! Last year we had over 500 active volunteers- we absolutely mean it when we say it takes a village to do what we do 💕 We are incredibly grateful for all of our volunteers 🐾 From those who clean at the shelter weekly, walk our pups, socialize the cats, help with offsite events, foster, assist with pet therapy programs and everything in between- you all play a vital role in helping the thousands of animals that walk through our doors each year and we could not do what we do without YOU🐶😺

Today is Hairball Awareness Day! 🐾😺💨

AKA: nature’s little "surprise" left on your pillow, your rug, or (for the truly lucky) right on your favorite shirt.

But behind the furball is a health reminder:

✔ Regular brushing = fewer hairballs
✔ A healthy diet = smoother digestion
✔ And more snuggles = good for both of you 😻

So, on this very important day, give your cat a good brushing and say thank you for not throwing up on your laptop (today) and remember to consult with your veterinarian if you have any concerns about your furry best friend!

🚧Construction Update!!

Last week, crews from Schrader Excavating & Grading Co. got to work expanding our parking lot—marking the exciting beginnings of our building renovation and overall expansion!

We're so thankful for all of the Contractors working on our project: Bowker Pinnacle Mechanical, Acme Electric Co. and Graham Construction a 3G Company 👏🏼

Wish list Wednesday! Link at bottom of post 🐾

Angus checked his inventory list and realized we're getting a little too low on our paper food trays we use for our pups 🐶 We use these for quick snacks throughout the day or if we have a picky eater/doggo that doesn't like metal bowls.

Update:

We're still catching Patricia checking out the construction crew 😏👷😻😂

Patricia is STILL available for adoption 😭She is 6 years young and was brought to us from a rescue situation with multiple other cats. She was shy when she originally came to us back in January but every day she comes out of her shell more and more- just check out the video below of her in her foster home awhile back.

Meet Rowan 🐶

Rowan, an amazing 2-year-old handsome pup, is currently living his best life in a foster home until he is adopted as our kennels are full here at the shelter 🐾 Here's what his foster family has to say about him:

"We’ve had Rowan in our home for just a week, and we’re already completely smitten. This sweet foster pup is the total package – fun, friendly, gentle, and full of love. Rowan gets along amazingly with our high-energy 5-year-old rescue dog, and the two of them love to romp and play together. He’s also incredibly kind and gentle with our kids (ages 7 and 9) – a true sweetheart with a big heart.

When he’s not playing with toys or enjoying zoomies in the yard, Rowan is a world-class snuggler. His favorite spot? Curled up next to his foster dad on the couch, soaking in the cuddles. For a pup who loves to play, Rowan also knows how to be calm, cool, and chill – the perfect balance!

Happy Tails Update 😺😺🐾

Pearl and Charlie, adopted back in 2023 and 2024, have found forever friendship in their loving home 💕

"Pearl and Charlie get along well with each other. They love to chase each other around the house 🏠. Charlie still meows 😻 but it's really cute when they meow at the same time for their Delectables--on a silver spoon 🥄, of course."

CVHS Canine Ambassador, Betty, stopped out to thank our friends at Blue Grass Enterprises, Inc. for their April fundraiser! For every 🐶 photo taken, $25 is donated back to the animals at CVHS! How PAWSOME!

Meet Rolo 🐾🐶

Rolo came to us back in February weighing only 45 pounds as a 6 year old pup- we are happy to say he's now 68 pounds and thriving! Rolo is ready to find a home and family 🥹He loves going on walks with staff/volunteers and running out his puppy like energy in our courtyard! We ask that he goes to a home with an experienced Husky breed owner and would do best in a home without children- he has been around dogs and cats previously. We would require a meet and greet with any pup(s) you may have in your home to make sure everyone is on board with a new friend 🐶🐶💕

Meet Leah 😻🐾

This brave girlie with a heart as big as her purrs! At just over 4 months old, Leah has already shown the world how strong and resilient she is. After a rough start that led to an injury requiring surgery, this darling girl is now rocking life on three legs-and doing it with style, speed, and a whole lot of love!

Leah climbs, plays, and gets around just like any other kitten. She's curious, affectionate, and always up for a cuddle session or a feather toy chase. She absolutely loves people and will happily curl up in your lap when she's ready for a nap.

If you're ready to fall in love with a kitten who's got a heart of gold and the spirit of a superhero, come meet Leah- we're open 12-5pm today 💕

Thank you Blue Grass Enterprises, Inc. 💕 🐕 🐾

We like... really love dogs.

While it isn't official company policy that all employees must be dog lovers... It pretty much is.

This love of critters great and small is one of many reasons why we are so intentional about educating people on how to best care for lawns so four-legged family members have a happy, thriving, and safe place to play.

Why are we telling you this? Because if you bring your furry friends out to visit us this month we will donate $25.00 to the Cedar Valley Humane Society for every pup that stops by for a treat, a pet, and a hello from our staff!

Meet Lucy 🐶🐾

Lucy is a sweet, snuggly 5-year-old girl with a heart full of love and a playful spirit. She adores being around people and is happiest when she’s surrounded by her favorite humans—or her beloved toys! Whether she’s running freely in the yard or curling up for cuddle time, Lucy brings joy wherever she goes.

Lucy is fully house-trained during the day and sleeps through the night accident-free. She signals when she needs to go potty—such a good communicator!

She is trustworthy when left alone in the house, her foster hasn't needed to use a crate. Lucy loves a good routine and is ready to settle down for bed around 9:30 PM (same girl, same).

Lucy wants every person to be her new best friend. She’s incredibly friendly, but can get a little overstimulated in new environments or around unfamiliar animals—so she’ll need a patient and understanding human to help her adjust with calm, positive support. We are asking that she goes to a home withour cats.

Volunteer Spotlight 📢

Cheryl has been a wonderful addition to our volunteer program since her start in early 2024. Last year she put in almost 600 hours of volunteer work 🥹🐶🐱 Cheryl walks dogs, helps with signature events, hosts CVHS run birthday parties, fosters and honestly- we can just call her last minute and she's down to help us with whatever we may need! THANK YOU, CHERYL 💕🐾
