Maintaining your Iron Horse Lift - what you need to know.
Iron Horse Lift is virtually maintenance free and designed to provide years of trouble free use.
Wheel axels - The axels run on two sealed ball bearings. No grease or maintenance needed. The grease zert you see on axel bolt is not used. Supplier standardized use of that bolt for many of his products.
Wheels - Gray and black can be cared for using common automotive plastic cleaners. The highest quality tread available has been selected and is expect to last 5-10 years in normal use. As a wear item, wheel life depends on the surface used on. Replacements are available.
Caster Frames - They are galvanized to be rust resistant and can be wiped down with light oil or cared for using automotive wax. - Water left to dry on the caster frames, bolts, washers and pins will cause discoloration leading to dull gray spots over time.
Caster top bearings - if grease is accidentally washed out or becomes contaminated, flush the bearings using WD-40 or other degreaser, then repack with standard bearing grease as needed by pressing in around bearing cap.
Jack - factory greased thread rod and internal thrust bearings should be ok for 5-10 years. It can be disassembled to re-apply grease if needed by removing handle bolt if cranking action isn't smooth. Light oil can be applied at crank handle contact of washers if needed.
Support pads - Nitrile pads can be wiped down with common degreasers or window cleaners. Avoid use of polishes or silicone based products to prevent slipping of bike frame on the pad. Pads should last years, but are a wearable item. If bike frame is not a smooth tube where supported, pads may be damaged over time. Replacement support channel assemblies are available.
Painted frame components - can be cared for as you would your bike frame.
Use for washing your bike - Iron Horse Lift is intended to make washing your bike easier. Avoid spraying water directly into caster top bearings. Keep your lift looking new by drying it off after washing to remove water spots. If treated with care, it should continue looking new for years.
