AGA is a non-profit organization dedicated to finding loving homes for retired greyhounds.

AGA's primary goal is to find responsible loving homes for pure-bred greyhounds after life on the racetrack and to acquaint the public with the desirability and availability of greyhounds as pets. AGA is organized exclusively for charitable and educational purposes within the meaning of section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code. Our volunteers work very hard to bring you the best possible hound for adoption. Small dog and cat testing are done so that a better placement may be achieved. Our hounds are taken to AGA's veterinarian immediately upon arrival to be spayed/neutered, heart worm tested, teeth cleaned, vaccinations, nails trimmed & bathed.

🌈 Losing one hound is tough, but losing two sisters within a month is truly heartbreaking. The AGA Family is saddened to share that Jill (Bwg Linda Tulis, 10/21/2014) and Michelle (Bwg Let Her Run, 10/21/2014) crossed the Rainbow Bridge in late August and early September. Jill and Michelle were littermates and cherished hounds of Craig Couch & Charles Cook. They were familiar faces to regulars at AGA events and Meet & Greets, Jill & Michelle always putting their best paws forward as wonderful ambassadors for greyhound adoption. Our hearts are with Craig & Charles during this difficult time. 🐾

He went from running at full speed to suddenly being paralyzed 🥺

After retiring from racing, Hazel was rescued and settling into a new life when a spinal injury left him paralyzed. His mom, Lena, chose surgery and months of recovery, even when others doubted he could improve.

Then one day, she checked her camera and saw him walking across the room on his own 🧡

Meet Bennie!
His soulful eyes tell a story of deep love. He is ready to take the leap again! He is the sweetest boy you will ever meet.
He loves to listen to birds and take the world in.
He loves car rides and meeting friends on walks.
He is great on a leash.
He is calm gentleman and is ok being being left alone for a few hours.
He loves food and has no food aggression.
He is tall and does like to check out what’s on the counter.
I think the only thing he doesn’t like is small dogs/ small animals.
He would do great as an only dog.

The racing is over — now the focus is on the dogs ❤️‍🩹

New Zealand has officially ended commercial greyhound racing, bringing a more than 150-year tradition to a close. With the final race complete, the government's focus is now on rehoming about 1,400 retired racing greyhounds and supporting their transition into family homes.

Officials estimate the three-year transition will include funding for adoption efforts, veterinary care, and other resources to help the dogs adjust to life beyond racing. Animal welfare organizations say the move follows years of reviews examining the welfare of racing greyhounds.
