Ha!

A farm in Idaho has a working border collie named Sadie who moves the sheep, and a barn cat named Otis who has decided he is also doing that job. He trots out with her every morning, takes up a position on the opposite flank, and crouches and stalks alongside the flock like he knows exactly what he is doing.

The farmer says Otis is not actually helping and the sheep largely ignore him. Sadie has chosen to tolerate the arrangement. The two of them now bring the flock in together every evening, one of them doing the work and one of them supervising.

We salute our official state dog!

21 years ago today, the Blue Lacy dog was made the official State Dog of Texas, when governor Rick Perry signed Texas House Concurrent Resolution no. 108. The resolution points out that the Blue Lacy is a Texas original, being the only dog breed to have originated in the Lone Star State. Blue Lacys are named for brothers George, Ewin, Frank, and Harry Lacy, who moved to Texas from Kentucky in 1858 and settled in the area of Burnet County. I have known a couple of Blue Lacys and they are awesome dogs. A rancher friend of mine owns one and also a Border Collie and says that the Blue Lacy is just as energetic and just as intelligent as the Border Collie, but also more independent. "Being a Texan, independence just comes natural," he says.

SUNDAY, JULY 5TH
Valley View, Texas
Four sessions are available, and you may choose to participate in more than one session by purchasing a package for each. Packages must be used within the session for which they are purchased. You may arrive and leave at any time during your selected session time slot. We are limiting the number of dogs per session to ensure everyone has plenty of opportunity to run the course.
• One package is five 2-minute runs
• Limited to 8 packages per session
• Sessions may be split between 2 dogs
• All dogs must complete their runs and exit the building by the session end time to allow for the next group
• Food and toys are allowed
Cost: $25 for five 2-minute runs on the course
SESSION SCHEDULE
Session 1: 9:00am – 10:30am
Session 2: 10:45am – 12:15pm
Session 3: 12:30pm – 1:45pm
Session 4: 2:00pm – 3:30pm
We are lucky to have Meagan Johnson to set up and watch the sessions. Each session will have an ASCA like novice and elite course nested together.
Come play in A/C on a turf surface. Do the courses or do your own course. Great opportunity to work your dogs in a different environment. All breeds welcome. Located in Valley View Texas.
