Layla is a sweet, gentle 4-yr old Labrador mix with soulful eyes that tell a story of a girl who has been let down before, but still believes that the best is yet to come. And we are going to ensure that's the case.

Layla was on the short list of pups who might not make it out of an overcrowded shelter. But the caring shelter staff put out an urgent APB (All Pup Bulletin) in a last ditch effort to find this loving girl a safe haven. Almost Home Dog Rescue NC was ready and eager to answer the call.

Since coming to us, Layla has shown that there is plenty of love and life in the beautiful girl. What truly makes Layla shine is her affectionate nature. She loves to be close to her people and thrives on connection, cuddles, and companionship. Whether it’s playtime in the yard or relaxing beside you after a fun-filled day, Layla will be right there, soaking up every moment of love and attention.

Affectionate with people of all ages, a calm leash walker, house trained, water-lover and food motivated (what Lab isn't?), Layla will fit right in with any family. And added bonus, our loving girl is also spayed, microchipped and up to date on all vaccines!

Worth the wait. You all remember Brody, right? He spent much of his puppyhood at Almost Home. While we were disappointed it took so long to find his new family, Brody took it all in stride. AHDRNC WAS his home. Carann, Greg and their dog Shadow have showed him it gets even better. Here’s what his new mom wrote: We couldn’t be more pleased!
Greg was actually on the floor with him last night playing and he looked at me with the a smile I haven’t seen in months and said, “Good pick Honey! He is awesome”. I could have cried!! 🥰 Ahhh… that’s the winning ticket.

It may have been sizzling 🥵 hot but we had a great time at our social hosted by Mills River Brewing Co. ! This is such a great venue. Shade, lots of space, good music and great food and drinks. Thanks to all of our previous and future adopters that showed up in force and to our volunteers that made the event possible. So fun!

You may be saying to yourself "Sure, Nixie is a sweet, affectionate, curious and smart 6-7 month Labrador Retriever mix with a great personality....but is she good with children?"

That would be a big YES! Nixie visited a local brewery this week (even though she's a teetotaler), and was clearly the belle of the ball. She was swarmed by children who wanted to meet her, pet her and play with her. Nixie was more than happy to oblige and gave them gentle kisses and rolled over for numerous belly rubs.

Great with people of all ages, dogs of all sizes and chill with our resident kitty, Nixie will be a wonderful addition to any family. She is spayed, house trained, crate trained, vaccinated and microchipped and is ready and eager to meet you. Our "end of the alphabet" pups, Ziggy and Xena, are enjoying their summertime play, as long as there is plenty of water and shady spots to cool off.

Ziggy Stardust is a handsome brindle colored mixed breed with an always present ear-to-ear smile. 3 years old and 55 lbs, Ziggy loves to play, loves to cuddle, and is happiest when he's with "his people." Dog friendly, great with kids, and kitty compatible, he is the perfect "family dog." Now all he needs is a family!

Xena the Warrior Princess is growing like a beautiful flower. Her legs go on for days, but she never had that gangly, awkward phase. A true athlete, she holds her own around the older pups with ease. Although only 7 months old, she is already a show-stopper. House trained, quick to learn, curious and affectionate, Xena is a special needs pup with mega esophagus, needing 3 meals per day sitting upright in her special chair and sitting in that position for at least 10 minutes after meals to make sure the food makes its way to her stomach. She’s ready for her special family to arrive.

FOSTER NEEDED! Are you lonely? Have a fear of commitment (no judgement here!)? Looking for a low-key, well-mannered companion to keep you company on these long summer nights? Maybe you just want to make a difference for a dog in need. If you have no other pets, we have just what you need. We were able to rescue Layla in just the nick of time. This pretty girl is in need of a foster home while she recovers from heartworm treatment. Layla is a low-to-medium energy dog that is completely housetrained, quiet and affectionate. She's all about showing you how grateful she is! Layla is 60 lbs. and an absolute gem. She's the perfect houseguest! She's been good with other dogs large and small but does not like to share her grub and treats with other animals so needs to be the only 4-legged family member in her temporary or permanent home. Our sister was just adopted (and we're VERY HAPPY for her 🐾!)

We were able to rescue Layla in just the nick of time! This pretty girl is now safe and secure in a foster home soaking up lots of love and attention. If you're looking for a large, low-to-medium energy dog that's all about showing you how grateful she is, please reach out! Layla is 60 lbs., completely housetrained and an absolute gem. She's good with other dogs large and small but wants her grub and treats all to herself. Hoping for a new BFF and fantastic companion? Layla may just be your girl!
