I have been doing opening day of pheasant season for a very long time. In many years I have caught 2 to 3 openers by going to different states. They never seem to disappoint and I never grow tired of them. Hope all you uplanders are having a safe and fruitful opening weekend.

Yesterday was a sad day at NorthFork. Our baby girl Etta vom NorthFork passed. We still aren’t sure what happened other than a bad infection in her lungs. Likely some form of pneumonia. Michele and I are devastated. She was right in her hunting prime. Etta was the easiest dog to handle. If someone ever asked to borrow a dog they wanted the little girl because she was competent at everything and never once caused a problem. You will be missed dearly little girl.

It’s getting late in the season but birds can still be found with experienced dogs.

Bagged a California Valley and Mountain quail this week in Northern California with my buddy Jordan. Numbers 12 and 13 on the Grand Slam. Six more species to go! A word of advice, don’t wait until you are sixty to shoot these two. Climbing those mountains is a killer.
