I don’t understand why people would rather hurt their dog for training instead of using positive reimbursement. I have a lot of clients that call me to cancel training because they want to use a balance approach. I’m a positive only trainer and so I’m not a balanced trainer. balanced training means treats and physical corrections. If a good trainer has studied behavior physical corrections are not needed. Balanced training sounds wonderful i.e., balanced, life, work and personal, balanced meal vegetables, meat and fruit. But Dog Training is not good. Science studies have proven that using physical correction can shut your dog down and create fearfulness. For example, tell my dog to stay. I walk away if she gets up a balance trainer well then proceeded to yank her neck severely and put her back where she gets and do it again. If she stays then she’ll get a treat. Here’s my way of doing it. I tell the dog to stay for one second and put a treat in the dogs mouth and then I release it and walk around. I work my way up to three minutes. If the dog breaks the day, I shrug my shoulders. I show the dog the treat and I walk away and say too bad. then 10 seconds later I will ask the dog to sit and stay and usually the dog will. The dog thinks oh my God I could’ve had a treat better. Instead of oh my God, she’s going to hurt me. I better stay. Lot of education and human behavior, child psychology, animal behavior, and animals psychology. There’s no need to hurt your dog. It’s just like training children. If they do something wrong when they’re in the learning phase, you don’t hurt them instead you teach them what they should do. It’s a mistake. No need to hurt them They are learning. I wish trainers would cross over and become purely positive and take more educational classes
