🚨 Emergency vs. Non-Emergency Calls: Know the Difference! 🐴📞
When your horse is acting “off,” it’s not always easy to know how urgent the situation is. Here’s a quick guide to help you decide when to call your vet ASAP—and when it’s safe to wait for regular hours.
🔴 Emergency—Call Immediately:
• Colic signs (rolling, pawing, not eating, sweating)
• Non-weight bearing lameness
• Profuse bleeding or deep wounds
• Eye injuries or swelling
• Choke (difficulty swallowing, coughing, nasal discharge)
• Difficulty foaling or signs of dystocia
• Sudden collapse or severe behavior changes
🟡 Non-Emergency—Call During Business Hours:
• Mild lameness
• Minor cuts or swelling
• Coughing without distress
• Low-grade fever
• Skin issues or hair loss
• General wellness questions
📞 When in doubt, call! We’d rather help you sort it out early than risk waiting too long. You know your horse best—trust your gut and let us support you.
