Someone thought her twin sister was getting too much attention.

Or rather, she slipped and has a big knot in her shoulder.

Kita came in for a rub down and some meds to help with a very knotted up shoulder. It’s part of owning “older” dogs…though don’t tell her she’s older. She has been training with the race team fairly consistently…

What a sweet girl! She’ll be better soon 💗🐾

Perhaps you saw this post this morning by beargreasesleddogmarathon…

And you are wondering…

1). Yes, we moved Eva to the Rec 40 race.

2). Where is Mama Katt?

We withdrew Mama Katt from the race. There’s a multitude of reasons for these changes. But it mainly comes down to the deplorable training conditions in North Dakota and keeping the divas best interest and health in mind.

We know our Stowaways can be up to the challenge by the 25th. Everyone else? Probably…but ultimately that’s not how we train and race our dogs. We want a fun challenge with happy dogs.

And did we mention the hills that come with beargrease?? That’s usually our main challenge racing there. But being on the sled only a handful of times and add hills…that’s not a challenge we want to place on our older dogs.

It’s a bummer. It really is. But ultimately the divas come first. 💗🐾

Let’s just not talk about how we are still training on the 4 wheeler…

Every time we go to try to train on sleds, it rains….

Or the minimal trail blows in with the glorious nd winds.

Yep. We feel defeated.

If you take a sled dog to the vet…

You learn their inside manners are lacking.

They learn humans keep treats on the counter.

They act completely ok.

You look like you are crazy.

Thankfully your vet clinic knows you and knows how gregarious sled dogs can be.

A few weeks ago, Negee started exhibiting some similar signs to when her sister, Cocoa, started her rapid and tragic journey with cancer. We have been monitoring her closely and doing all the things to keep her comfortable and happy. She had a bit more decline over the week so we took her in to get some X-rays and see what was up.

So far Miss Neg looks tender, sore, but ok. No signs of any osteosarcoma. Her X-rays do not look like a dog who is 11.5…her X-rays look much younger - thankfully - a testament to how amazing sled dogs are and how well Eva cares for them.

We are trying another medicine route to see if we can get her back to as close to 100% that a 11.5 sled dog can be. That’s not ancient. But it’s “up there” and she has fully retired.

We learned our girl is quite a troublemaker - much like her sister - and we continue to care for her - for hopefully many years to come!

We think Believe’s face is a perfect representation of the current weather conditions.

We so know all of you are rejoicing at 30+° in January…..you know we are not.

The freezing rain overnight?! Rude.

We are doing our very best to train but man….this is tough.

1) it’s race season!
2) y’all went to Ottertail and got meat AND fish
3) we ran out of room in the freezer
4) all of the above
5) 1&2 but 3 seems odd because isn’t outside in North Dakota in the winter basically a freezer all the time??

Views off the top of the dog truck!

It’s been a pleasure having our musher home from college these last three weeks. We really wish trail conditions would have been better (or even existent) to really get the miles on like we needed. But we made the best of it. Like we always do.

Praying for snow in our corner so we can really work these last few weeks before races.
