The picture below is for an assignment my son was given recently that has to do with “precious things”. My son selected this little teddy bear because it has belonged to him since before he was born. But it was not the longevity that made it precious but the love behind it. You see when my son was born we had cats who did not want much to do with the crying hairless one. Especially after we had so rudely brought him home after we’d abandoned them for hours on end for several weeks (We were going back and forth to the NICU). So having our son develop a relationship to the family pet(s) was hard. In enters T-bear! T-Bear was the model citizen. Every time we needed the boy child to do something first T-bear would be the defacto leader. Additionally how else do you give a first child the built in play of another child like adventurer? You animate their favorite stuffy to come along beside them. (And if you know my husband and you know he’s pretty animated!). So over time my son grew quite the connection to T-bear caring quite deeply for his “needs”. Making sure T-bear was fed and slept and even treating him when he felt unwell. 🤧 This created such a loving and caring bond with all creatures in my son that still sticks around with him today at 16 years old. My kids will often come for a sit with me. They LOVE getting to know your pets s as well as I do. It’s such a heat warming thing to see our sweet son growing into a caring little dude. All because he learned how to care for a tiny little bear earl on in our household.
