These very loved dogs were lost in a tragic event earlier this year that had me in shock and tears to read about. Although I never knew them or their family, I don’t believe there is any point in having a skill if you don’t use it whenever it might be able to mean something, and I hope this piece can serve as a fitting tribute to them and some small comfort for the people who loved them.
This is the first multiple-subject composite scratchboard piece I’ve ever done, on the first board I’ve ever cut down to fit a composition (16x9). I was able to combine 5 separate photos with adequately similar shot angles, levels of detail, and light sources to make one image that fits together well and does justice in representing each subject.

An unspeakable tragedy occurred within our doggo community. Platinum BorderCollies lost 5 of their beloved pups as well as their house and all their belongings in a house a fire. It’s absolutely heartbreaking and my whole heart goes out to Jessica and her family.

It has been one heck of a crazy week! We took a whirlwind trip down to Miami for my brother-in-law’s law school graduation, then flew back for my wife’s MBA graduation! Today I’m catching up on many things, and we’re back to powering through orders this week! Nixon’s OFA reports are back and I’m happy to report he is living up to his nickname, Mr. Perfect. He’s now fully DNA & OFA health tested & everything is passing. 🎉

Nixon is not Toast and Nixon is not Banitsa. He has many redeeming qualities over both, but he is not on the same playing field when it comes to athleticism and drive. And for that matter, he isn’t like any of his sisters, either.
You can’t force a square peg into a round hole and you can’t make a dog play a game they aren’t ready to play the way you want to play it!
Nixon is the third largest dog in my house. He’s also a soft Border Collie which lends to his perfect behavior that I adore. He’s growing up really REALLY painstakingly slow 🤣 So he hasn’t been competing at the same caliber yet, but I have no doubt he will get there. I had no problem taking a puppy from his breeding because I’m good at being patient and shaping drive appropriately. Pushing through and forcing it would inevitably lead to an unhappy team and a dog that doesn’t want to play at all.
He also had some very bad alignment issues this summer in his jaw and needed a lot of Chiro work and rest. I’m glad he wasn’t a Toast that wouldn’t have let me know something was wrong until it was too late and significantly damaged. But It did set disc play back that much further.
He’s always adored disc a LOT, he’s just kind of sucked at it until recently. Our foundations have paid off and he’s really coming into his own and I can’t wait to see him continue to blossom! 💐

Wow, how time flies! Happy Birthday, Nixon! 🥳
I can’t say enough good things about him. Such a happy, easy puppy - aside from his ears which gave me a few grey hairs 😉 He was jumping off the dock at 3 months old and loves traveling with me. An amazing hand off. He hasn’t been crated in the house in months; he’s trustworthy loose when I leave. He loves frisbee and freestyle foundations. He’s reliable anywhere and anywhere and truly a sweet, charming soul. And he’s the best cuddler.
