Truly grateful and humbled by another opportunity for the brand to be recognized, with me being listed by FeedSpot.com in their list of the “Top 45 Men’s Grooming Influencers of 2025.”
I’m never sure how I find myself on these lists from time to time, but as someone whose never thought of myself as an “influencer” per say, I am thankful for my small community here on social media to try and inspire Barbers to uphold the standards of service, respect and integrity that have been the keepsake of the Barbering trade for decades.
I’ve been on Instagram for about 14 years, sharing my values as a single Dad, a man of Samoan heritage, a man who started Barbering as a second career at 38, and as I turn 55 this year, I’m still on here trying to authentically build my community, diligently posting and sharing as I always have since day one. I say that to say this….if an old head can do this still for the betterment of his business and brand’s growth, what’s stopping you as a Barber (especially if you’re new) from doing it for yourself?? I don’t have a social media team, no fancy camera, or know how to do any crazy editing….just me and my phone and some effort to stay in my lane promoting what I believe matters most in business, family, and life. YOU can do it too!!
Thank you to everyone who appreciates the efforts from this “Unc”, and thank you to the folks at FeedSpot for including me amongst some true industry influencers, culture shapers and game changers!

Humbled to have the Brand be recognized recently as one of the top Barbershops in the City of Berkeley by SanFranSecrets.com, based on skill, atmosphere and experience.
Each of the shops listed has their own appeal, which proves that there is plenty of business out there for every Barber and Shop to coexist and thrive off of.
Not every client out there will think what you offer is the best, you just have to find and attract the ones who appreciate what you have to offer, and how you offer it to them.
Stay in your own lane, keep your head down, and PUT IN THR WORK, because no one should be expected to build your success for you…..alongside you, sure…..but NEVER for you!!

What an amazing surprise this week while boarding my connecting flight in Vegas, on way back to The Bay from Atlanta after visiting my son.
After taking my seat on the plane, I randomly looked up at the folks still boarding and saw this familiar face looking back at me smiling, a face that I haven’t seen since I left Cosmetology school back in 2009! My face lit up with joy!!!!
and I started at together back in 2008, and we quickly became great friends, a big brother and little sister trying to figure out what our next chapters would be. I was a fish out of water, embarking on a career change from Banking, trying to figure out color theory, why my blow dryer wasn’t blowing heat, or why my doll heads hair was forever tangled. She was just a natural born talent excelling at everything she did. “D-RAE” as I’d call her, encouraged me when I thought the hair industry wasn’t my calling, and I’d encourage her when I felt life outside of school was getting the better of her.
Now she’s taken her artistic talents to interior design, and was returning from a Trade Show in Vegas. An entrepreneur, wife, mother, you still radiates the same joyous energy from our beauty school days almost 2 decades ago. I’m so proud of you D-RAE for how far you’ve come and all that you’ve accomplished, and I am blessed to still call you my friend.

Love the new mural that the building owners had done next to the Berkeley location, and while I’m not sure if they told the artist to give it a very aloha kind of vibe, I’m definitely not mad at the fact that they did.
Taking a closer look into the mural, the artist (who I wish I knew but the mural was done while I was back home in Samoa for the Summer) has included some pretty dope details like the Golden Gate Bridge, and people sitting and looking out at the Bay.
My hope is that the mural lasts longer than the older one without local riffraff and vagrants defacing it, because it truly is such a beautiful compliment to the shop and our aloha branding! If you’re in the area, tag a selfie infront of it and give us a tag. 📷📸🌺🤙🏽
And if anyone locally knows who the artist is, please tag them here for me.🙏🏽🎨🧑🏼‍🎨

I never used Twitter, as I didn’t understand it. But I’m enjoying the use of as a platform to share just short blurbs of my insights, philosophies and inspirations on Barbering, entrepreneurship, fatherhood and all things in between….without me having to write a novel with every post.

It’s been 12 years to the day that my daughter “The Boss” and I received the keys to the space that would launch our family business.
3 months after getting our keys, we officially opened for business as a one chair, one man Barbershop, with no clientele to speak of. I honestly didn’t even know if we were going to make it past the first three months of the lease, but I had faith in my Lord, and I had faith in my abilities to persevere and make the dream a reality…..there was no plan B, and there was to be absolutely no giving up.
Any small business Owner will tell you how scary it is to take that leap of faith and jump in both feet to try and bring a dream to fruition. But you know what’s even scarier to me? The thought of never even trying, out of fear or worry or comfort or complacency in life…:never trying and then going to me grave always wondering if I could’ve done it or not.
Whatever your dreams are for a better quality of living for you and your loved ones, just know that a new reality could be on the other side of the door of opportunity….you just have to walk through it.
Nothing venture is nothing gained, and it’s better to try and fail, than to fail to try.
Thank you Lord for the blessings of that day 12 years ago, and for giving me the strength and focus to keep building the brand today to fulfill your purpose of faith and fellowship and community.

Today was a such special day in Samoa lenei, as we celebrated my son Savai’i, my Simba, turning 8 years old. It was made even more special with being baptized this morning in our Catholic faith.
Happy 8th birthday my young lion king, I hope you enjoyed your day as much as we, your family, all enjoyed celebrating you throughout it. May our Heavenly continue to bless you and keep you, granting you many more birthdays, a lifetime of joy, and an over abundance of love and happiness.
We love you Savai’i Mark-Jason Solofa!! 🦁👑❤️🇼🇸🇦🇸🎂🎊🎈🎉🎁🙏🏽
