Hard to believe our time in Japan is almost over! But of course I found good animal stuff. Subaru the Shiba Inu is the resident dog at Kantsuji Temple in Tokyo. He’s super sweet and today is his birthday! A few days ago I visited the statue of Hachikō, a faithful Akita who would meet his owner at Shibuya Station every day after work. One day his owner had a health event and died, and didn’t come home. But Hachikō went to the station every day for 10 more years to wait for him. And Gōtokuji Temple, home of the famous waving lucky cat. The story goes that a lord was on his way home and a cat popped out and led him to the temple. A storm came up, and the lord credited the cat with providing him the good fortune to avoid the storm. It’s a lovely temple to visit. And of course I have one of the cats coming home! We’ll see you back at it next week!

Of course if I see a cat, I’m taking a picture. This fine kitty was lounging along Philosopher’s Walk in Kyoto, silently judging all who strolled past. It’s a lovely area of Kyoto, with access to many temples along the way.

The tough part when you work in an area for a long time is seeing pets from young to old. Moose was a very Muppet-y ragamuffin in his younger years seen here, but grew to stately gentleman with enviable side-eye abilities. He was always hoping I was there to see the other dogs and not him. 😆

I’ll miss you, Moose, but not nearly as much as your family will. You were a very good boy. ❤️

Lucy has been my friend for a LONG time, just about since I started practice in Raleigh. At the beginning she always wanted to eat me alive, but with solid training and dedicated owners, she has become a wonderful patient. As her owner and I were chatting yesterday, she had gone off to the bedroom and came back with a peppermint mocha, eagerly bringing it to me. Now how did she know I love a good peppermint mocha? 😂 (didn’t even notice her tongue sticking out a bit until posting this lol)
