It's Veterinary Receptionist Week, and we want to take a moment to thank the girls who are such an essential part of our team.

Becky: Becky started out as a full-time receptionist in September of 2022. Since then, she has expanded her abilities and is now our Receptionist, Veterinary Assistant, holiday decorator, social media coordinator, and sponsorship facilitator! If she isn't at the front or back reception, then she is in surgery assisting with the prepping and recovery of patients, in the office researching & creating posts for our social media pages, or crafting away to decorate the clinic for a holiday. Becky always comes running when one of us is having an issue, whether it be work related or personal. She loves to see people smile and is always making us laugh!

Katie: Katie came to us in 2024 as a part-time receptionist, but since graduating, she has switched over to full-time! She is always willing to help and loves to learn new things. You will usually see Katie at the front reception area greeting our clients with a smile on her face, rooming patients, and filling medications. She is a rockstar!

Beth: Beth joined our team in the Spring of 2024 as a receptionist. Her primary space is at the back reception area where she checks out clients, schedules appointments, and answers the small animal phone as well as the equine phone! She is a great multi-tasker! Beth loves all animals, especially border collies. If she sees a border collie puppy come in, it has all of her attention!

Jenna: Although Jenna started out in reception in May of 2024, she has since branched out and also became a part of Shenanigans Stables, the Kelleher's private, family owned business. Jenna helps take care of the horses being boarded there, as well as helping set up the arena for horse shows! In the clinic, Jenna is always keeping us entertained, and loves to organize and tidy up the clinic. Starting this summer, she will also be starting her journey to become a veterinary technician!

We can't thank these girls enough for all they do for us and the clinic! If you see any of them this week, be sure to give them a quick "thanks!"

🚨WARNING! GRAPHIC CONTENT🚨

This is a perfect example of why it is so important to get your female animals spayed!
On the left is a normal sized canine uterus, and on the right is what is called pyometra. Pyometra is a serious and potentially life-threatening infection of the uterus that causes it to fill with bacteria and pus, and it is seen in unspayed female dogs and cats.
This particular dog came to us yesterday morning with the following symptoms: not eating or drinking, distended abdomen, discharge from the v***a, and vomiting. Upon doing an ultrasound, we were able to determine that this dog indeed had Pyometra. We did an emergency surgery to remove the uterus, essentially spaying the dog.
🐾To prevent this from happening to your furry friends, please consider getting your pet spayed if they aren't already🐾

🐰With Easter coming up this Sunday, we wanted to share some things that can be harmful to dogs and cats if they happen to get into them, as well as foods that should not be given to them.🐰

Easter egg hunts are always fun for the kids and families, but make sure to prevent your dog from getting involved too! Dogs can grab and possibly open the eggs then eat whatever may be inside them, or even the plastic eggs themselves! It is best to keep your dog in your home or on a leash until all the eggs have been found.
Easter Lilies: While they are popular gifts given during Easter weekend, they should not be brought into homes with pets. They may be beautiful, but they are highly toxic to cats and dogs and can lead to kidney failure.
Easter baskets: Easter baskets are the highlight of the day for kids, but you should keep them in a location where your dog or cat can’t reach them. Most Easter baskets are filled with plastic grass, which if eaten by dogs or cats, can lead to an obstruction and require emergency veterinary care.

Some common Easter foods that should be kept away from your pets include:
deviled eggs, cookies, cakes, chocolate eggs, candy, mashed/twice-baked potatoes, carrot cake, and green beans that are prepared with butter or spices.

You can include your pet in the Easter festivities too! You can make them their own Easter baskets with festive toys and treats, and bandanas or outfits for the day!

We hope everyone has a fun and safe Easter weekend!
